I have £300 max for a new camera, I had a DSLR but didn't like it so sold it, it had lasted me two years but didn't like the sheer size of it.

I wondered what the wonderful people here thought about any of the plethora of cameras. I looked at the epl-1, nx100, and nex 3 all at jessops for £300 each however the nx100 comes with a bundle which has a memory card and extra battery whereas the epl 1 and nex 3 I will have to save up to get a memory card and yeah I know it's only an extra £15 but it's a pain in the arse and want to use the camera as soon as I get it (hopefully tomorrow)

Cheers for any help :)

Even an original E-P1 would be fine, and cheapish too!

Have a look on SRSMicroSystems

Don't be afraid of buying second hand either. Unfortunately you won't be able to access the classifieds on this forum till after 1 month and you have 100 posts, but other forums also have classifieds, and you can find some real bargains.

A Panasonic GF1 and a standard lens (14-42) you could probably find for just over £300 second hand, and it's one of the best micro four thirds cameras available. I myself have an E-P1 that I got for £220, and I enjoy it very much.

I did look at the EP-1, trouble is the gear I sell will either be cash in hand or in paypal, so if it's in paypal then I can get the EP-1 for £250 refurbed and then if it's in hand I'll just have to pop down to Jessops.

EP-1 looks a gorgeous camera though being full metal construction it reminds of a cheaper Leica :D

check Jacobs they have the olympus pen on offer over the holidays £299

yeah that's what puts me off the EPL-1 it looks great and has nice still and video IQ but without one tiny scroll button it's a real turn off.

^ Don't let it worry you too much, honestly, it's not that big a deal in the real world. You will know your way around a camera within a few days, to the point you can change settings in an instant regardless of the controls.

I've bought the NX100 and don't regret it one bit, Bios updates have improved a few things that testers griped about. Yes it is a bit plasticky, but still well built and accessories are still scarce.

i have heared nothing but good reviews about the Sony NEX cameras. I dont have one myself but i would buy one in a shot if i had the spare cash

I'd go for a NEX, larger, better sensor and excellent low light capability.

I'll second that! I picked up at second hand NEX3 twin lens kit for £350 and used it first time last night at a wedding. I'm blown away by the low light pictures. In fact in the iAuto mode the flash wouldn't fire if it detected the subject of the photo was too far away and the pictures were amazing. I'm very impressed so far.

There was an offer a few months back on hotukdeals for a sony nex5 with lens kit for £250

Absolutely gutted i missed out :(

I'm in the same boat, I think I'm going to opt for the Samsung NX bundle at Jessops as it's seems a nice compact camera and the IQ is very good, I also like the idea of the Pentax lens adapter which means when I get the cash I can get some lovely LTD primes which would make the samsung really compact in fact a pancake lens may make it pocketable :)

I've been researching mirrorless interchangable cameras for a while (mainly because I don't have the funds to buy one yet!!) and from what I've read the GF1 is the way to go.

I know lots of people like the NEX cameras but to me they don't fill my needs. Yeah you have a small body but the lenses are still quite large. If I wanted to use bigger lenses then I'd use my Mark IV or 40D.

Its a tough one because if you go m4/3 then you need to decide do you want Olympus or Panasonic. Panasonic have no in body IS but most of the currently available Panasonic lenses are stabilised. Olympus has IS in body.

I hope no one feels offended but I just thought I'd share my thoughts.

If you want a GF1 you'd better be quick as they seem to be thin on the ground, unless you're thinking of buying used.

Same with the new GH2, they don't seem to be able to make them fast enough!
