Mirror, Signal, Manoeuvre or maybe not!

Given that he posted the video to Youtube, I'm guessing that he thinks he's in the right and he was expecting everyone to comment as such.

He's a moron

I just wonder is that what they now teach at driving schools. I hear 3 point turn is no longer even tested - must be "obsolete" now as you can just launch yourself into the air and do a backflip.

It hasn't been 3 point turn in 15 years.

He had many opportunities to move to the left hand lane safely, it isn't the fast lane, I was being ironic, the rules are get to the left most lane unless overtaking, something he clearly had no intention of doing and then to undertake the other car was ridiculous. Deserved a ban and a heavy fine.

It wasn't a 3 point turn in the 60s when my mother took the test. It was 'turn the car using forward and reverse gears' or words to that effect. When I took my test in the 80s, I could easily have done a u-turn the road was so wide but still had to shuffle to and fro.

Can I add this from the M1. When two cockwombles meet. It's a long video but really sets the scene for the accident. Dashcammer is outside lane hogger, blocks impatient driver in the swift. It can only ever end one way

Comments are great - Cammer complains he got a ban, huge fine...

Both drivers at fault for driving dangerously IMO.
Lifetime ban for both if I was judge.

When you consider that at even 30 mph, anything less than 30y distance from the vehicle in front is considered tailgating, I think most are guilty of it on a daily basis.

I was driving to work on the Wainscott bypass this morning, and a BMW 1 series was less than one car length behind me at 70 MPH, despite the fact that I was overtaking lorries. As we neared the RB for Hoo, I pulled over to the nearside lane and he proceeded to speed up and tailgate the car ahead. I sometimes wish that I had 20MM cannon in the front of my car to get rid of these idiots forever.

You would probably be fined for littering :)

Standard of driving in general in the UK us awful really sad that it really is dash cam time for most.

Yes there are many idiotic drivers on the UK roads but I now live in the south of France and it's really dire here, I mean, I was following a learner on Tuesday, 54 kph in a 50, is that a way to teach people today, answer is no but this is France and as my better half has said, the further south you go the worse it gets.

I was knocked off my bike in June, bike written off as a woman decided to change lanes last minute on a roundabout without looking, she forgot she was going to pop into the local services. The layout is such that the only way for her to hit me is for a last minute lunge, the police report said she changed lanes without looking, but the insurance company have said as theres no witnesses it's 50/50. Of course it helps them we're both insured by the same company! After 5 months delaying tactics, it's now gone to the ombudsman, but every vehicle I now have has a dashcam and the next bike will also have a front/rear camera system. I cannot see any other way now.

I would be interested to know which setup you are looking at for the bikes, my wife is asking for one for her daily leeds commute on her Honda CBF500.

People just don't think about the consequence of their actions.

I was nearly hit by a van on Tuesday night on my bicycle, pulling into my street, adopted "primary position" in my lane in the 10m leading up to the right turn, signalling right. The van could obviously see me, as he moved entirely over to the other lane when he decided to overtake me as I turned right...

Agree that the lion's share of blame lies with the white car, but that grey car overtaking was just asking for trouble.

I've done my fair share of overtaking like a prat in the past, but in a situation like that I would not overtake the white car until I was certain I'd been seen - I've learned from too many near misses, especially on bikes.

Look at the road language going on and it's clear there's a very good chance the white car is going to pull out. Bluddy obvious. Furthermore, it's quite likely the driver did look in the mirror but the grey car was too far back to be seen (hard colour to spot at that speed in the mirror) or hidden behind the camera car. Then if the white car took a last minute glance in the mirror, the grey car would have been in the blind spot. You need to glance over your shoulder as well - the 'life saver' as bikers call it. It's no consolation to say 'it was their fault' when you're all in hospital.

As a biker myself I would say absolutely spot on.

Bikers make the safest drivers :D

It's worth noting that motorbikes were the first vehicles to use dipped headlights at all times, with the slogan Be Safe, Be Seen. Something as simple as that might have saved the day in this situation.

I've just CSI'ed the scene of the accident, there is a gentle right hand corner before the straight giving perfect visibility to see how clear the road is no matter how far up the backside of the van you are. The straight section is about 0.7 miles long before going into another gentle right hand turn at the end. The grey car makes its move as soon as it sees it is clear, the white car sat behind the van for around 15 seconds before deciding to make a move on a road that was completely clear the whole time, which is why the grey car could come from so far behind with that speed.

The grey car is a latest generation Astra which will have had LED DRL lights fitted.

Funnily enough the streetview car in 2015 was overtaken in exactly the same spot by a grey Jag. Most of the other street view sessions are driving the other way, but also show multiple overtakes at the same section.

You need to spend a few days driving in Italy. This would transform how you feel about UK driving.
