Information please, I have a rare Russian 300m/m 4.5 Mirror lens, I purchased this new in 1995 following a write up which said it was optically superior to the japanese ones in the same price bracket, it has the M42 pentax screw mount, which, with a jessops adaptor would fit most of the 35m/m SLR,s at that time, Do to family circumstances which occoured then, I never had chance to use this lens, and it has been found, still boxed, still unused. absolutley as new!. my question is, is it still usable on the new Digital SLR,s? the Canon camera for which I purchased the lens for has, long gone, Info required please Guys, Thanks.

I concur. No metering either.
These lenses can be exceedingly sharp, but need a lot of input. Worth perservering if you want that reach.
There are plenty of M42 adapters on Ebay to suit most cameras. If you use Canon EOS you can get AF confirm chips as well. You can even get adapters with the AF confirm chips already attached. These make using a long manual focus lens a lot easier.
With the 42 adapters it is worth spending that little bit extra and getting a better quality adapter. Poorer quality adapters can have problems with infinity focus.
Manual mode and AV (aperture priority) will work. Obviously in AV mode you cannot change the aperture but the metering will work fine (Canon EOS) and will set the shutter speed accordingly.

Metering will work fine on a Canon body.
I am sure you will get it to work with the right adapter, but I will say, considering you will have no aperatre control, and mirror lenses are never going to be as good quality as a standard lens, have you considered getting hold of a cheap lens instead (seen sigma 70 - 300 lenses sell for less that £50 for example)
I have a 500mm mirror lens and love it for what it is, but that is largely because I couldnt possible afford the £1000s to get a standard lens of that kind of range.
