Has anyone tried to clean the mirror on a D90? Mine has what looks like a finger print on it. I had the lens off the other night and i am sure my daughter stuck her finger in there!! Didnt notice at the time. Only noticed today when i took the lens off to change!!

interesting thread. i did a reply to the other thread about dirty stuff

yes, but you'd have to be a special kind of idiot to get it dirty in the first instance, children poking fingers in cameras gets them dirty but dust will get into the body if you have bad lens changing habits.

i dont think that you can clean it though as it is a specialist job really.

So, only to be cleaned by a pro? Will the finger mark affect picture quality etc?

None what so ever, the mirror is between the lens and the sensor whilst your composing your shot. As soon as you press your shutter button, the mirror flips up out of the way so the light falling on the lens can reach the sense. The mirror could in theory be removed and still have no effect on the image, although composing the shot could be tad awkward

Ok, so the little finger mark would have no effect on the shot.

No, only on the prints :D

The mirror is extremely delicate. 99% chance of making it worse whatever you do.. so just leave it alone :)

Face of the mirror can be cleaned with a normal sensor swab. I give mine a quick swab after cleaning the sensor- although technically you're suppose to use a new one so that you wont spread the much you wiped off the sensor on the mirror - for me its relatively minor job of swabbing dust spots away.

So, dont use lens cleaning fluid on the mirror?

No,if you want to have a go be careful,as for breathing on the mirror,I would also say no,their always the chance of getting stuff on to your sensor, which can show up on your photos. :)

Well, cleaned the mirror with a tiny bit of lens cleaning fluid on a cotton bud!! All seems ok.
