weekly Minx 52 for 2017

Hi Alison,

Broken - Bang on theme. Great capture of the textures.
Fruit - Tasty looking blackberries there. The lens flare isn't helping the shot though, but on a TZ you don't have the option of a lens hood, so very little that could be done about it. So for that reason, #2 is my pick. Whilst the colours are all very similar, you've captured the detail sharply and the focus fall off makes the subject stand out from the background.
Progress - Decent burst rate in that TZ100, you can certainly follow the progress of the arrow towards it's target.
Graceful - I agree with Andrea, this has come out really well. The angle it's taken from works and makes it appear larger than it really is. The pick of the catch-up I feel.
Vehicle - Union of South Africa on it's way to Weymouth. LNER A4s aren't usual Southern Railway fare but it does look the part of a Top Link express.

The jigsaw works really well I am with Tim about actually taking the time to do it rather than use a filter

another fan of your Graceful here. (y)

and well done with Piece. Great image, great idea cutting it in pieces. (y)

Hi Alison, sorry I seem to have missed commenting on yours recently. Clean is a good subject, nice and clean but I'm a bit confused by the shadows around the pan handle which somehow seem too close to the handle but photographing shiny things is hard and you have caught the cleanliness of the pan and ladle. The home made jelly looks jummy

I like the reflection of the lights shining off the ladle, it does say 'cleaned' well.
I see what Chris means about the shadow of the handle, I guess the light source was quite high about the pan. Maybe worth considering cloning out?

Two really good ideas and images for Piece and Clean, Alison. I like the way you have used your own image to make the jigsaw for Piece and the layout is good, and the before and after images for Clean are interesting and underline just how clean it is, as does the sparkle on the spoon. I hope the Bramble jelly tastes as good as it looks :)

Thank you for your comments the shadow of the pan handle is on an upright surface behind the pan rather than on the surface below hence its closeness to the handle and the light source was the ceiling light over head and a flash for added sparkle. I left the shadow in as I was trying to avoid comments about it floating.

Well done on catching up, Dorset Coast Express catches my eye, well seen.

At first I thought Occupation was a group about to occupy M&S or somewhere as some sort of protest but well seen and captured as it is, the young lad at the back looks a bit bored and out of place.

Hi Alison

Contrast - A definite contrast between the two faces of the cathedral. Nicely exposed with the blues of the sky also nicely captured.
Although obviously the alternative image has the more appealing subject ;)

Curves - I'm going to plump for the exhaust on the Harley. Very crisp, especially the carbon fibre.
I like the tight crop and also that you've got separation from the grass.

Occupation - Like Chris, I thought this had the look of a protest about to occupy somewhere, but yes, I can see tour guide as the occupation. Quite a cross section of people and expressions there. (y)

Thanks for the comments and I think I have fixed the link now

Bent
That's really nice, that sun shining through adds to the image too. I'm not too sure about the line running from the top to the bottom, under the arch.

Wood
Some nice pastel blues and textures.

Arch, nice silhouette with good details

I like the old painted wood but I would be tempted to crop it a lot tighter

Well done to capture that train in the Archway Alison, it works well for the theme.
I love the angle for Bent with that metalwork towering up into the sky.
I agree with Chris on Wood ...a closer crop would focus it more for the topic ... nice bit of woodwork for the theme though.
