Hi All,

Still very new to photography. I have a 'preloved' Sony A390 and, after having a morning with my Dads Canon 4000D + 70-300mm lens, I have been looking at lenses (you know how it is.)

Obviously with me still be very new to the hobby, I'm still a bit wary of getting carried away and spending our next family holiday on some kit, so I have been looking at used Minolta lenses.

As I understand it, these will fit my old Sony and are priced nowhere near the "divorce threshold."

My question to the forum is quite simple...are they any good?

Or is it in fact, (as is becoming more and more apparent with photography) not that simple?

Minolta AF a-mount lenses will all work just fine.
The older Minolta MD lenses won't.

Could you give us more of an idea for the kind of lens you are looking for?

If you are after a telephoto lens Sony SAL 55-300mm SAM DT lens is rather good and cheap (especially used)

Hi Thanks for taking the time to comment.

Sorry, you'll have to walk me though, as I don't actually know what I'm looking for.

I currently have the kit 18-55 lens and I've had a quick go with my old mans canon 70-300...so I suppose I'm after something similar/would do the same job...or close.

Lots of the older minolta lenses are quite good.

There is a good site called https://www.dyxum.com/ which lists just about every sony compatible lens going. It's got sample images taken with particular lenses as well.

well something like this would be good - https://www.parkcameras.com/p/SH-87...AWIN&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=259955

I have bought a used one as low as £110 in the past. So keep an eye out for a good deal. But if you rather not mess around looking without much knowledge of how to test lenses etc then buying used from camera shop like the one I have linked is a good idea too.

as mentioned above dyxum.com is a great forum for their lens database and its a sony/minolta only forum, so you can get great advice too :) (I am a member myself)

excellent!

Thanks for the advice both. I'll have a mooch.
