I'm new to the forum and dslr photography.
I have been given a Minolta Konica dynx dslr which I have started to use recently having previously used compact film/digital cameras for the last 20 odd years. I also have a Minolta xg2 I bought years ago together with a number of lenses. Can anyone advise if there is some sort of adaptor available so these lenses can used again with the Dynax?

I believe there is, but it's an old item itself now, so I'd guess ebay or s/h equipment dealer i your best bet. the old Minolta Rokkor lenses are some of my favourite glass!

Oddly enough, I had a KM 5D and some old MC/MD lenses. I looked around on forums back then to see what I could do. I found that a lot of the eBay lens adapters had glass elements to allow focusing to infinity, supposedly this decreases image quality. There were people who would hack the old Minolta mount with M42 mounts, then use M42 to Alpha mount. I also remember something about Minolta making a 2x converter that allowed MC/MD mounts to fit into Alpha bodies, I'm guessing this will cost more than the KM 5D itself, as it's very rare! If I'm wrong about anything, please tell me. As I said, it's been awhile since I Googled this.

In the end I sold the KM 5D, a Minolta Dynax 5 (film) and all my A-mount lenses to buy a smaller camera that seems to shine using adapters.

Bookmark this website, it's a great website about the A mount ; http://www.dyxum.com/

The advice above is good. Using Minolta MC or MD lenses on a Minolta AF / Sony A camera is generally a bad idea. Micro 4/3rds and Sony Nex users can use them however. If you wish to grab some old lenses, go with the M42 route, there are some fantastic Takumars and Carl Zeiss Jena lenses around :) Not to mention the Pentacon 135/2.8 preset...

Just went on a random eBay search for Minolta stuff and I found this, how odd.

That's nearly double what I sold the KM 5D for :gag:

Very odd indeed, they are claiming that it works on "A" - Auto mode, yet has no electrical contacts.
I agree with ManualFocus -G on this topic, use either old M42 lenses with a simple adaptor (no optical glass needed to maintain infinity focus), or use the early Minolta AF glass built around 1985.
My entire collection of Takumars (5 lenses in all) cost less than £100, and they all work fine, with lovely, smooth manual focus actions.

If you have any Rokkor's amongst your collection you could consider a mount conversion, I had my 35 and 58 converted by Richard Harris who did a great job on them, he actually sells some kits to diy or he'll convert them for you, if you want to contact him for advice follow the link below, just click on the lens conversion hyperlink.

Think they mean Aperture priority rather than Auto. Some of the Sonys will do this with contactless lenses, others will only work in full manual.

Cheers Mark, I will go back to my steam driven manual lenses, all this technology is a bit scary ;)

Hi all, thanks for all the advice, I have looked at the links and will consider them further. I think the best way forward for me would be to by a new Nikon or Canon and get some additional lenses. I just seemed a shame not to use what I thought were quality lenses. Meantime I will keep using the Dynax.
Finally, I am at a loss as to the NSFW matter as there were not any pics attached as far as I was concerned, neither is anything attached this time.
Thanks again for all the advice it is appreciated. N

Thanks for the advice & the eBay link. Whilst it would be good to get the converter allowing me to use my old Minolta lenses I guess the best thing would be to save the money & get a new setup. Meantime I will continue using the Dynax until I can afford to up grade.

Thanks for your help.
