My wife and I want one.

Just wondering if anybody here owns one and what are they like as pets?

If you have a ferret too that would be especially helpful since we want both

They're brilliant, very loving and affectionate. They make great guard dogs, too, if only people took them seriously :lol:

I have a black and tan dapple who we rescued in April. He's brilliant with my Staffy cross Rottweiler and our cat (they'd play all day long if I let them).

We had a Black and Tan long haired boy, as Hannah says they are super dogs. Make sure you buy from a reputable breeder though as they can have back problems.

ferrets should not be kept singly, you would need to get a pair, trio or a group.

All Daschunds are great fun. I have only had standards, both smooth and wire haired.
They are big dogs with little legs. Back problems can come with the territory with all long backed dogs even from quality breaders.

Yeah I'm aware of that - had 4 years back. Wondered if the dog would compensate as company....?

I've never kept them myself (looked into it a while back and they wouldnt suit me) but i believe they need at least one other ferret around, not sure the dog would count as a substitute.
theres plenty of animal based forums around, many you can read without joining, why not search for a ferret forum.

i had one for best part of 16 years.

it was awesome. had back problems tho had 3-4 slipped discs get having get injected with morphine when it used to be bad for him.

didnt go on that many massive walks either.
id get pet insurance if you get one as they do have lots of issues with there backs. fantastic dogs tho. mine was grumpy barked at everything.

have a jack russel now and hes just crazy
