Have just spent out a fortune :D on the "Jessops" extension tubes, I thought perhaps I had better make use of them
I have been looking at this
Has anyone used them are they any good? :shrug:
I don't seem to be able to make one "for" this price either

but I was looking for something with the light source "through the box" rather than directly into it
 
i looked about as well I can get better lights, better tents, better tripod but not in UK from one supplier. Unless anyone knows different.

i did think about buying these lights below, thinking one at back, one each side & flash(still working on that one lol) can pick up tents for £5 & tripod for £5 or less but time you add postage in wasnt worth it as lamps to ship to Scotland is £4 extra and i'm in Glasgow not Highland & Islands lol

I have a four sided light tent, where one of the side zips open. I've had limited success with it in the past but the more I think about the more I think it was because I didn't have equipment like a macro lens and a set of 'extortionate' Jessops extension tubes. As I now have both of these things I'm willing to give it another go, and I have seen great examples of people using them on Flickr.

I dunno how much this will improve your macro, dont get me wrong, its great as a "stage" on which to shoot, but generally especially with extention tubes your field of vision will be tiny.
Its not like your shooting a coke can product shot, its much closer than that.
Course you still need backgrounds and as much diffused light as you can get and the thing has a million and one other uses, though I dont think its absolutely necessary for macro.
I read somewhere....it might be here about a macro shooter using half a ping pong ball over his subject, fly or whatever and shooting through a hole in it, that gives you an idea of the scale of the area your actually using.
A ringflash is a great buy for macro...

I was digging around for advice on using the Maplins Soft Box Light Tent which I know has been mentioned here plenty (rrp is about £20 but often on sale for half that - see HERE)
My problem was that to use this indoors you needed a really bright sunny day & when I tried to do my own lighting with desk lamps etc the pics were nearly useless
I was recommended THIS mini lighting set up for just under £40 which seems to meet my requirements - 2x bulb holders 2x 25w "daylight" bulbs & 2x stands - I would tell you how good it was as it was delivered yesterday by DHL but one of the bulbs was smashed so haven't had a chance to try it out :bang: - I will report back when I get up and running ... Paul ;)
PS - They guy who recommended the Lighting Setup used his to take this which I thought was quite decent & exactly what I was after for Ebay sales etc
