Yes
My old small format pc is fine, but must be about 8 or 9 years old. A new smaller desk means I'm wondering about getting a mini pc but have no idea about what's needed these days (not that I ever did really..) so a little advice would be appreciated...
Basic use only, no gaming, minor photo editing - I don't know what my current pc spec is but think I've got 8gb(maybe 16) ram, a basic graphics card and an i5 chip and its never seemed bogged down or slow.
Are there any basic rules to follow about what to choose? I've used pcspecialist before for laptops and would be happy to use them again but thought it worth asking here before I do anything so I've got some idea what I may be talking about...!

In all honesty a 21" imac would be my suggestion. They take up the same space as a monitor.
I have no idea what your budget is though.

A nice system would be:

Apple Mini with the M1 Chip with 8-core CPU and 8-Core GPU with 256GB of SSD Storage, couple this to an Ezio Ecoview EV 2450 monitor.

Shopping around you should be able to get this for under a grand.

It depends on what you mean by "Mini". I have a Dell Small Form Factor case, and they do Micro and Ultra as well. Some good bargains available in their refurb shop!

That's a good call - some of the Dell micro form factor PCs can bolt on the back of a monitor. I had one for work for a while, and it was very adequate.

To the OP, just make sure it's adequately spec'd in terms of RAM (16GB) and processor (recent generation i5 etc).

Thanks for all your replies. I meant a windows pc, sorry I wasn't clear.
Size-wise, small, doesn't need to paperback book size, just not a big box that takes up a chuck of leg space.
I guess I was more interested in what chip, ram etc are current and can work in a small case - heat and air flow can't be such a big deal I guess? It was always a big enemy 20 years ago when I was more interested in such things.
I'll take a look at the Dell website to get an idea of what they do.

Don't forget to go to their refurb site if you decide to purchase. Your choice may be limited in terms of spec but you can save quite a bit of dosh. They do have some higher spec machines but most are low/mid range. Apparently new stock gets listed at 3 pm UK time and overnight so 3 pm is the time to look!

Thanks for that, much appreciated!
