That's it! I'm fed up - after about 8 years

I'm fed up with having had a succession of web monkeys bully me into their way of thinking and working, and having sites written for and hosted on microshaft asp .net hosts.

Two reasons for me being hacked off by this. I end up paying monthly for the privilege. And I have a perfectly good linux virtual server that has been rock solid reliable for nearly ten years - with oodles of space and bandwidth.

So, to my two questions. If some kind soul could help me out :)

1. Can you recommend someone who can move/replicate a web site that is currently hosted on an ms server to a php/linux host? About half a doz pages and nothing too fancy.

2. Are there/what are the SEO considerations in doing this??

er, and 3. Am I talking rollocks?

Thanks for helping.

John

You're a bit short on details. If you posted the site URL and what the backend is using, then it might be easier for someone to answer you.

e.g. Are you running a CMS? Are you actually using ASP.NET? Is it flat HTML? Is it PHP? Is there any special functionality in the site, or is it a brochure site? How are your Windows Server and LAMP servers spec'd? Installed software packages?

I have several MS servers and have zero problems, but I couldn't move the sites to a LAMP stack server because the platforms I'm running aren't supported on the LAMP stack. e.g. ASP.NET with .NET 4, MS SQL Server, etc.

Oh, I do have some sites that could be put on a LAMP stack with no problems because they're running PHP and MySQL. But most of my sites don't use PHP...

There is no direct way to just transfer the site as far as I'm aware.

I'd always recommend a full site rebuild in these circumstances. A new CMS driven site reusing and updating the existing content.

In terms of SEO you'll probably find a newer site rebuilt form the ground up will be even more SEO optimised.

The real issue is budget. Secondly the complexity of the site as to how easy it would be to re-create. A link to the site would help.

My website designer has been developing sites for over 15 years and has always refused to have anything to do with ms servers asp .net hosts and only develops on unix/linux.
