My wife has just bought me a MM. I usually just use the trackpad on my MBP to do my editing but have been talking about getting a MM/tablet for some time, especially as I now have the laptop hooked up to the big LCD in the living room.

I'm just wondering whether it would be more worthwhile swapping the MM for a tablet? Given my budget I'd be looking at this Bamboo this Bamboo

Thanks

If you're talking about using it for the likes of Photoshop, I would say a tablet knocks the socks off a mouse. I've been using one for a year or so, and wouldn't like to go back to a mouse.

By the way, what's MBP?

For editing work a tablet every time, I rarely use a mouse at all now, normally only when I am on someone else's computer

:plusone:

Sorry, Macbook Pro. I'm just being lazy :D

I took a tablet back to PC world yesterday it was a bamboo one. I was going to swap it straight for another one as mine had developed a fault. They had none in stock but reserved me one in Curry's by phone, the plum of a PC world worker must have phoned the wrong store as I went to both my local Curry's and one was shut and the other had never had a call or stocked the item

So as I could not find another for the same price on-line I decided to try one of the new MS blue track mice, I should get it in the next day or two. I use my HTPC hooked up to my LCD in the living room for photo editing and after having the Bamboo since April have only used it 6 or 7 times I decided that a wireless mouse would get far more use for editing and other stuff.

If my PC was in an office\spare room on a desk where I would leave the tablet plugged in all the time I would have stuck with a tablet but as I pack it away every time I use it the mouse was the better more flexible option.

Fingers crossed it will be a good one, I have never tried these new blue track mice before and there supposed to be more precise.

I've just ordered the same Bamboo - now just waiting for Amazon to deliver.

I'm happy using a mouse with PS for most basic edits, but there are some things that you just cant beat a tablet for.

The Bamboo will replace an old Maplins tablet that I can't get to work with CS4. I have gone for the Pen and Touch as I have suffered a little RSI or similar recently. Hopefully, it will same me from using the mouse so much.

After a week of trying to get used to a Mighty Mouse I ditched it for my old Logitech MX Revolution... Couldn't get on with the MM at all.

I use my Wacom Intuos tablet like a mouse mat and swap between the mouse and the pen according to what I'm doing, it's easy to just move the mouse to the side and grab the pen when I want it. For some work the mouse is better, for others the pen is indispensible.

Cheers, have taken the MM back but they haven't got the tablet despite telling me over the phone this morning they had loads of them :bang:

Trying to source one from PC World or Curry's, even Amazon and Play don't have them.

Firstly, apologies if this sounds (or even is) a ridiculously stupid question!! I would just like something confirming if at all possible.

Do these tablets allow you to draw round images etc in photoshop (or similar programs). I get frustrated trying to use the mouse as I find it is not very accurate - but perhaps that is just me!!

Cheers

It makes working with the pen tool a lot easier, it's much more natural, like tracing an image with a pencil.

I like the Mighty Mouse but the little scroll wheel can be a pain as it gets clogged easily. I also use an Intuous3, the 12x9 inch one but the included mouse is useless as it's position is absolute rather than relative meaning that you cannot just place it and move like you do with a normal mouse you have to leave it on the pad and just move it from there.

By the way, expect a new mighty mouse very shortly with NO moving parts at all :) The current one detects the presence of your fingers on either side which is why some people have difficulty right clicking it. The new model will detect your finger's location for the 3D scrolling too rather than the ball.

I work at a design agency, all of the designers use tablets and make it look second nature. I'm an amateur and struggle with them a bit.. practice, practice, practice :-P
