Might have just bought an OM1

In fact, just realised why I was drawn to this, as I have an OM1 but it hasn't brassed like yours but shows alloy where the paint has worn. Just discovered they had OM1s with both brass and alloy tops. Rather jealous of yours now.

Well you'll be even more jealous when I find out it's actually SOLID GOLD!

As it has the motor drive it would appear that this is also an OM1n, the slightly improved second gen OM1.

It's not just the OM1n models that take a motor drive, the later OM1s like mine have the coupling too, hence the 'MD' badge on the front. The camera looks nice but I'd lose those clanky strap ends before they wear away any more paint.

Nice:thumbs:

I've only ever owned/used the om-10 which I quite like tbh......wouldn't mind a play with an earlier Oly though.

Enjoy!

Well, it's arrived and it seems sweet as a nut. I think it's been recently serviced TBH, the foam seals look brand new.

I'd like a split focusing screen... I'll have to look into how to replace it.

Cheers

Can you swap out a screen from a OM10 or the like? I've just got my 1 and find it harder to focus than my 20.

There are several choices, I'll see if I can find the manual with the options in. I also have an OM10 and don't think it'll fit - or if it does, the meter readoff is printed onto the focusing screen so it won't make sense on the OM1.

Mine was given to me by my uncle, belonged to my grandad before him and is easily my favourite - not just for sentimental reasons either.

My first photo taken with it, bargain agfa vista and dev'd and scanned at good old Asda..

And the camera itself (taken with the Canon ftb)

Mine has pretty much no light seals but haven't noticed anything in photos and it was shoved up in an attic for more years than I've been alive - the battery had corroded causing the wire for the light meter to be in 2 pieces but both easy fixes!

Sweet, the scan looks good too. You have a great taste in cameras, my man!!

I've ordered some OOD Provia 400f and went to pick up a cheapie test roll today but couldn't find any in Tescos.

Yes £55 was a bargain - lens was described as having fungus and separation and body as part or repair, but it's all very clean and works perfectly. The lens is clearer than my OM 50 1.8 which I've been using for years.

Probably going to buy a 50 (0r 55)mm f1.2 now. Who would have thought it - another whole system to waste money on!!

I've also got a 1-13 focusing screen on the way and an olive strap and softie for the Vietnam vibe (not sure why, just think it'll suit it)

The more i look at these the more i want one

Fixed that for you :p

I'm lucky that the guys at my Asda are fairly decent - would still like to send away though but I'm saving that for Portra in the new year!

I must say, I'm rather taken by the all black body... odd for me as I'm usually a chromey!

55 quid, bargainous - I've got an OM10 (for which I think I paid £15 at a car boot), i'm very tempted to start building it a family of OM buddys

Did you get the one from Leith that was posted by Chris (I think? I might have made that up...)? I had my eye on that

I know that Gad-Westy was selling some OM2's recently - he might still have one left. Great guy to deal with so might be worth looking in the Film section of the Classifieds.

I'm quite taken with the idea of an olive strap - had never considered one before.

Yeah I've got a soft spot for these machines...

I can also vouch for gad westy, I bought his om 135,a few weeks ago.

Here's the strap - I've had ones from cam-in before, they're great. I like thinner Rangefinder straps so this is about in between.

And the softie which I'll rough up a little:

Shooting a test roll of Fujicolour 200 at the moment, my Provia 400f should be here tomorrow. Add to that the new meter battery, 1-13 focusing screen... should be a winner.

It's not looking good for my recently acquired om1, got the mystery film developed and it's basically blank with some hints of images...

Well TBF Steven we have no idea how long that film has sat in there! I seem to remember there were signs of shutters opening and closing etc, so I remain hopeful. And at worst you can probably sell that 1.4 lens for twice the cost of the set!

You might be right Chris, I've just ran through all the speeds and the shutter definately opens so it must just be the film has degraded.

Just revisited my film camera collection after years of neglect and had forgotten what beautiful cameras the OM1 & 2 are, plus my ME Super, MX, A1, T90, EM, FM & F3.... now where do I get some Delta 100 from!

I've just put a bid on a T90 on ebay - ive never used the FD mount Canons, so this should be interesting

T90 was a gem and advanced in its day but make sure you get a good one, they can suffer from a shutter problem error.... = expensive!

its only a speculative ten pound bid - if I get it and it turns out to be borked I won't have lost much, and I can always use it as a paperweight or sell it to some other mug
