Hi all,

I recently purchased a second hand Nikon 200-400mm f4 VR lens from Mifsuds for £3400 and on using it for the first "proper" time today, I encountered a problem. It would not lock on to anything, but would hunt backwards and forwards over a small area around that of the subject. I could solve it by zooming out to 200mm, focusing, then zooming in again. However, it occured twice and so I think it must be an internal fault. On their website, its condition was listed as Excellent++, meaning in almost perfect condition with maybe one or two cosmetic blemishes and clean optics.

On telling my parents about this problem, they immediately said it would be best to send it back and try and find another second hand one from another dealer. I would rather send it in to them to have them send it to Nikon.

Has anyone used them before? Also, what do you think I should do?

Mum and Dad know best, return for a refund and give them a ring to say its on the way back and why
 
I would send it back. I've used Mifsuds a few times and found them to be excellent so I'd be supprised if you have any problems.
 
Thanks Will - my parents feel that it is best to get a refund for this one and to buy another which has never been opened as it was an insurance replacement which was never used and has 12 months warranty.

Return it but stop and think for a second if they send it to Nikon for repair it will also get a service and be tweaked on the work bench. Mifsuds will be paying and you will still have a three month warranty plus the service from Nikon you could buy one from else where and it be fine for 4 months then fail then you have to pay :thinking: just a thought

Does it do the same thing in each position of the memory recall switch (AF-L/Memory Recall/AF-ON)? Just wondering if there might be a problem with that switch.
