the 24-70 f2.8 from nikon looks lovely but wayy more cash than i can spend, whats the sigma 24-70 like? id also wondered about the 18-50 sigma but think id prefer longer and end up with a 10-20 at some stage.

any other good contenders around?

Tamron 28-75 IMHO is the best answer to the Nikon 24-70,followed by the Sigma 24-70.

The new HSM version of the Sigma might be worth a try?

A used 35 - 70mm f2.8D is an option, trouble is finding them now the full frame cameras are about.

They used to run around the £200 - £250 mark on ebay.

Great lens smaller and lighter than the 28-70, and 24-70 just as good optically.

yeah but the HSM is £900 :(

maybe i need a camera that will autofocus will af-d lenses......

well i use manual focus lenses at the mo and plan on having a better body at some point, so the 35-70 is still an option.

*** witht the HSM sigma at that money im tempted to look for 2nd hand nikon 24-70

quote 'yeah but the HSM is £900'

its listed at that - but without trying to hard you can find it online for 1/2-2/3s that

Cheers

Hugh

i guess i know where to find bike kit and not camera kit online-where are you finding it half price?

What budget are you working to? I may have a 28-70mm coming up for sale soon. Its just been overhauled by Nikon. If its of any interest, pm me.

Kev.

The 28-70 AF-s is a cracking lens for the price secondhand now.

Downsides to it are it's size, and well....it's size.

I use it a lot now.
