Microsoft has done a u-turn and offered a chance for anyone with 30GB of free space to keep it after the changes roll out in 2016. You have to opt in, though, by visiting preview.onedrive.com/bonus/ and clicking the Keep your free storage button.

For some strange reason my free storage jumped from 15 gb to 30 gb.
