Following a stroke I am limited on using my camera gear until I regain more use of my right hand.
I have gone for a new smartphone with a 'proper' camera (zoom lens with full IS glass optics). The Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom. Essentially a 16 megapixel compact camera with a built in 8Gb smartphone. Got it from DABS for £130 delivered. Also got a spare battery and charger box, S4 zoom Samsung cover and a mini tripod for £15 from a UK seller om EBay.
It is a load of fun and will be great for when I can get out properly. Using it aroumd the garden.
Has been a bit of a pain getting files off the camera but just got a 64Gb SanDisk USB Dual Drive. It has a MicroUSB A male plug one end and a USB 3.0 A male plus on the other.
Tested with the S4 Zoom (with 64Gb microSDHX internal) today amd the SamDisk MemoryZone App on the S4 zone and shifting photo files is very quick from the S4 Zoom to the externally attached USB flash drive. The SanDisk App copies music files quickly too.
In all a very simple means for me to continue my hobby while I recover.
Now my main comcern. The Dual memory stick plugs directly into the S4 Charging/data port but does not look/feel robust enough if it gets knocked or falls off my desk etc.
For that reaspn I have been searching for a microUSB male-female extension lead but to no avail.
Has any TP member found/have such a cable or knoe someone who could lash one up?
In passing, I have already tried using 2 different USB OTG (On the Go) units but they have proved flaky/slow whereas the process above just works, is very qiick and with my new HP laptop is a simple solution to my dexterity issies.
I just see the weak spot as being the connection point on the camera/phone.
I have wifi cards for my DSLRz and EOS M kit but the S4 Zoom offers a simple solution in weight and ease of use.... just a simple cable safety and damage limiter now!
Apologies for tbe length pf this post but hoping someone will have a light bulb moment.
Thanks to all.
Steve
