Yes
Any one used these ?
Are they reliable ?
Does the adaptor slow the card down, read and write ?
Any particular recommendations ?

Want to get some reliable fast 32GB cards, but they seem very expensive compared with micro sdcards.

Thanks

Never seen a micro SD to CF adaptor, I have an SD to CF one and it is very slow, ok for jpegs on single shot but can't keep up with RAW or burst mode in my 7D and video is a no-no.

Ask yourself if you really need 32GB cards, apart from price, if one goes bad that's a lot of data lost.

I have one and used it a couple of times in my old 5DII. Maplin, £13...

Yes it will slow down the Transfer rate (dont ask me by how much) but if it's slow deliberate shooting then worth the buy.

Rarely gets used now as have better cards

When you can get 32gb transcend 600x cards for circa £40 why waste £13 on an adapter.

Any one used these ? Yes
Are they reliable ? Not all are - and the choice of SD card is also a factor
Does the adaptor slow the card down, read and write ? Yes, or breaks it completely (predictably just as Lord Lucan passes you astride Shergar)
Any particular recommendations ? Don't do it :)

Ok - thanks for the responses, I'll pass on that idea till I find a reliable adaptor.

My plan was to rationalise all my memory cards to micro sd, as they are reliable and economical. I usually buy Sandisk. Have had bad experiences with Transcend SD cards in the past. The last CF card I bought was a Lexar x300 16GB, still use it, but seems to slow down my D300 intermitently, the Sandisk Extreme III is more consistent, but not as quick as the Lexar.

I just recently ordered a Sandisk 32GB Class 10 micro SD card for about £22 from play. Their equivalent CF card is closer to £50. Having said that I've been known to splurge on Portra and Tri-X, plus you can't re-use them.

I'm going to stick with Sandisk.

I'm always surprised when people say they've experienced loads of problems with memory cards as I've got some that are 6+ years old and still work perfectly. I've only once had a problem with a card and that was when I got a cheap unbranded one from 7 days shop. If you stick with the known brands and buy the right speed for your needs, I think you'll be fine.
I personally always use Sandisk now as they seem to be reasonably priced and reliable, but I'm in the smaller size and multiple cards camp rather than one card of a big size. I found recently that in Sandisk SD cards it was cheaper to buy two 4gb cards rather than one 8gb.

I would definitely avoid adapters as I don't think any of the major brands make them and its adding another potential problem to the mix. I also don't think they work out that much cheaper.

Compact Flash
Sandisk 16GB Extreme 60MB/s - £50
Transcend 16GB 600x (about 80MB/s) - £52
Lexar 200x (about 26MB/s) - £35

SD/uSD
SanDisk Mobile Ultra Android microSDHC UHS-I 16GB (30MB/s)- £12.49
Transcend 16GB SDHC Class 10 Memory Card - £10.49

The major brands don't make adaptors because they would be cannabalising their CF card sales.

I bought 2 Transcend 16GB SDHC Class 10 Memory Cards last year, they've never worked correctly with my LX3, whereas my Class 4 rated Sandisk Ultra 8GB work fine.
