weekly Mich's 52 for 2015 Entertain

Hi Mich, sorry I don't think I've been here before now.

Mouth, nice idea. The shadows bother me a little as you lose the edge of the mouth against the shadow. Do you have a reflector, or even a sheet of card covered in foil to reflect some light back into the shaded areas.

Relax, alas I do not find saxophone relaxing! But I do like the close crop. Maybe a change of angle and DOF would give this more punch? It would certainly blur the background that it is lying on.

Mouth is a nice pic good colour and detail. I would maybe prefer to see the whole mask or even closer on the mouth losing the background completely but its good (y)

Hi Mich

mouth....i like the placement in the frame , normally not a fan of cropping bits off but it works for me here. Lovely blue color which works well against the white bg (y) Little niggle is the top lh corner has a couple of odd bits that could do with cloning out . Possibly using a reflector would lessen the slightly harsh shadows inside the eye's & mouth ?

Hi, mouth agree with Lynne above nice placement in the frame but the shadows could be better

Crowd, nice low POV and lovely flowers. Slightly under exposed I feel and removing some of the FG grass would emphasis the Crowd.

Cheers.

Hi again [emoji4]
Nice find for crowd - agree with posiview it could do with a slight exposure boost maybe. Otherwise nice colours

The crucus shot is a good fit theme wise :-)

Vertical. Loving that,....what a great looking place.

Hi Michalene ...that's a really nice shot of the crocus, I would maybe nip a small amount off the bottom and make it more letterbox shape to really empasise the Crowd, well spotted, really nice DOF and lovely detail in the front flowers.

Lovely stained glass window, I like the inclusion of the verticals of the windows and lift door (y)

I love the angle and the DoF on the Crocus's Mich :)

thanks guys - the vertical shot was taken in the Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh. I need to get photoshop or something similar to improve the look of things as I don't have a way of doing things to one bit of the shot without all the rest.

Close up - that's a lovely shot Michalene, I agree with Dark Knight, it's very nicely composed

The only real comment I have is, I wonder if it would have worked slightly better had the focal point been on the centre of the flower,
rather than the centre of the image?

It still works as is though

thanks guys - it's one of mine that I actually like! ;)

ohh close-up, looks so soft and cosy I could sleep there, lovely shot

Machine

Decided to go for my carriage clock for this one. Have been looking while at work in the week but the weather last week wasn't that great so settled on this indoor shot. (No flash).

Close up - I agree with the previous comments - super composition with the petals fading away into the bg

Machine - I love carriage clocks and that looks like a really nice one with all its shiny cogs! I would have preferred a slightly wider crop to get all of the top and bottom in shot and I think a plain black or white bg would help to contrast against the bright brass. That's something I really struggled with when I started doing 52s last year because I didn't want to go out and buy a load of special equipment. But after much trial and error I eventually resolved it by using the "wrong" side of a roll of old wallpaper - that has now had its end taped to the wall many, many times :D

Hi Michalene

Machine - I really like that, I love the workings of clocks & watches. I agree with Elaine about the crop, it would have been nicer to go a bit wider to get all of the clock in - I'm guilty of chopping bits of images myself and I'm slowly getting the hang of framing a bit wider then cropping afterwards in pp :-)

Hi Mitch - love your machine. I would have gone with a tighter crop so you just see mechanism, but otherwise it looks good. Also I would maybe have tried to change the aperture to get it all in focus with the crop you've used :)

Nice machine Mich

Thanks for that tip - I really should get a background organised.

thanks! I was really undecided whether to do just the mechanism or the whole thing.

Nice machine Mich (y)
thanks Cobra :)

Hi Mitch ... nice idea, I too like to see the workings of those clocks. It doesn't look too clear to me and I think the moving parts are behind glass? Doesn't it come apart for photographic purposes?

MAchine: A touch brighter on the works as it looks a little dark in there but good image of the clockwork.

I think your close up shot is lovely Michaline...very delicate.

I know exactly what you were going for with machine. I desperately wanted to use a clock mechanism too!

Yes was behind glass - oh no daren't take it apart lol!

thanks Martin.

Hi Mich

Close up....on the right track there , lovely black bg , petal color fading slowly in to white then greeny yellow in the centre.. :)

Machine.....nicely handled lighting on a very shiny subject....just to be different I'd have preferred a much closer view of the cogs & wheels ...sorry :(

Lagging behind again!

Alphabet and sound

View attachment 35773 View attachment 35774

Really lagging behind and I think it's because very busy at work and also thinking too much about the themes and waiting for an amazing idea to come along lol Hopefully get experiment done today before I lag behind again due to holiday on Friday!

Alphabet I couldn't decide what to do then thought about doing the letter. I had taken the shot of the seagull that day. For sound I saw the hammer at work and the block and thought that this would hopefully fill the brief. Unfortunately no-one else with me at work to get them to use the hammer!

It can feel really rushed with one shot a week - especially if you have a busy life.

I really like the idea behind Sound. It's a clever interpretation. I think the hammer could do with a bit more space in the frame though. I like the nail in the background too. I completely skipped it so I didn't feel so rushed, so you did better than me!

The seagull is fun although the OOF bits of tree in the foreground are a little distracting.

Liking the idea for alphabet, the gull appears a little out of focus to my eyes. With the focus and the bits of tree not in view I think it would be better.
Sound, a great idea, I agree with Ian the composition is a bit tight, more space would help, I would probably have the hammer at a bit more of an angle.

Hi Mich
How's it going...
Major catch up from me, where does the time go? I think always behind should be a theme! ;)
Right back to the catch up!
Relax ... Wow learning the Sax how cool is that... Different! Anyhow I guess there's a million angles you could take with that and still have an interesting shot! They always amaze me TBH look lick there's so many keys and not enough fingers to press them:) The shot is slightly dark, like the angle ( could also have been used for 'Mouth' ) works ok for me as it's different, always expect to see the looking down neck shots. I think for such a great instrument I might have tried shooting it against a plain solid colour like blue card or something to really make the colours pop. Nice an sharp great colour works for me.

Mouth ... Great colours! Really like this one the angle is spot on. Draws you in lots of patterns to absorb. Few little
Highlights at the top, but nice shot.

Crowd .... Of Crocuses! I guess that's a better word than clump;) Lovely colours always a happy plant that signals spring along with Daffs and Primroses! Like the use of DOF here.

Vertical ... I think this one needs turning inside out. With all that light on the inside I think you should have been outside taking the shot and let the light bring out the colour in the window. With all those reflecting white walls difficult to get the window to play ball.

Close up .... Excellent shot very good composition and positioning, like Cobra said tweak that focal point over to the centre of the flower and your bang on. Really good shot(y)

Machine ... Nice colour there and nice sharp focus. Love the gears and mechanism. Bit of a close crop on the top and bottom though .

Alphabet ... Ah the favourite bird I love to hate! I feel for the lamp! Like the concept. Yes few distracting blurbs in the back ground think id clone them out. I could think of another B to call the bird:eek:

Sound ... Now you have overtaken me:rolleyes: Nice texture in the head of the club hammer, nice colours in the rusty face. I'm sure that will ring well when you wack the block with it so it fits the theme nicely!
Sound choice of subject :coat:

Nice work Mich!

Hi Mich,

I know how you feel - I often have to travel for work through the week so I try to get the shot done at the weekend - so far I've had the time to do it but I know not everyone can spare time at weekends.

I like your alphabet shot. I'd have been tempted to put a bit more space between the 'B and the bird, but I'm no expert at this kind of thing :)

Sound - that's a great idea. loads of good detail in the hammer and I don't even want to think about how noisy it would be! (y)
