Hi Marsha and all, thank you for your comments. I will have a look later and remind myself of the number of exposures, but anything 100+ will give you a decent trail.

I use
Iso 800
30 seconds
Remote release with the shutter on continuous.
Make sure high iso noise reduction is turned off otherwise your write speed to your card will be affected causing gaps in the trails.

I used my 18-55 at the wide end.

Stack your photos with a programme called star stax, on phone atm so cant do link. Then a slight edit in elements.

Hope that makes sense. Any other questions ask away.

Don't get the embossing to be honest, the original is a well lit colourful shot that works well as it is IMHO

Glutton, quick snack was it :D Good detail and nice and vibrant; well lit too. Not keen on the embossed version but it's always good to try different thing,

The first is a nice shot! Nice & sharp, nice & even lighting - not a fan of the embossed version though! Minimal PP is always best in my opinion! :thumbs:

Work - well done to C on that achievement - many moons ago my daughters did the same thing and in my view they benefited from the whole dance/work/discipline/social experience. She shold keep it up. I think that I would crop it all round a bit more, whilst keeping its relative posityion in the frame. Aklso wondered whether a (very) slight turn would have given a bit more relief to the marks around the red circle

Cheers Michael, I really must learn what the high ISO reduction thing actually means! I'm hoping to try this next year when I live in warmer climes!

Work, Yay well done for her award. Not really sure what to say about the shot crit wise though.

Gluttony, lovely yummy cakes again and well lit. Not sure about the embossed one though.

Thanks Marsha, basically the high iso noise reduction is the the camera appying some sort of processing, this is what slows the write speeds down to card, you can turn it in one of your custom functions.

The embossed version was to try something a little different and I was curious to see the responses, the normal version is my official pic.
 
Catch up time again!

A very wet day in York and a visit to the railway museum allowed me to do my 3 week catch up.

Week 8 and Time, A mobile phone pic whilst waiting for a train back home, would have got the slr or g5 out, but in this case it was just easier with my phone being cold wet and tired! Processed in Snapspeed.

Week 9, Juxtaposition. I did get a pic of the Mallard and Dwight D Eisenhower next to one another, but it didn't quite work in the end, and I liked this one much more. Panasonic G5 and 14mm pancake

Good catch up

Time - on theme and I like the warm wintry colours, partic the blue sky. Not sure about the comp because all of the verticals seem to conflict (because of limitations of mobile phone ?) Nice capture of the detail in the top of the column and the roof. As a point aside , the letters and figures on the notice boards are oof - but I find this happens a lot on this type of illumination. I just don't know why - I am going to have to find out

Juxtaposition - good colour, good focus and dof and good detail in the ball.

I am going to have to look thick and say that I don't get the connection to the theme - is it to do with nabbing a wicket? or just a juxta of shapes and colours?

Letter - crisp, good colour and dof. Quite like the shadow of the pointer and its highlight. Top right a bit distracting even tho well oof.

well caught up will forgive the slight bits of over exposure on the Time pic as its from a mobile
Juxtaposition is a nice picture not sure I get the connection though
well done on getting letter with the bad lighting etc you have done a good job

The distortion on time would be from pointing upwards to the monitors. Thinking of the oof on the letters, I reckon its down to the brightness of the led's causing a halo and affecting the dof.

Juxtaposition, The ball was to the side of the case, so juxtaposed? Also the colours between them struck my eye too. Perhaps a wider crop would have been better, but there were too many distractions which ruined the shot.

Letter, I would have liked a bit more focal length here to avoid the oof area.

Time: Nice pic, on my screen the writting seems a bit blurred ( could be my poor eyesight :lol: ) so im taking it thats because its a phone pic? If a mobile phone can save the day then im all for using them :)

Juxtaposition: Nice photo with some nice textures. Not sure i would have got it without your explanation but this has been a hard theme for most i think.

Letter: Nice shot, i like the shadow that's on there and the way the letter being in gold stands out from the red.

Juxtaposition, I like the detail and rich red but not getting the connection.

Letter, I like. Cracking old machine and once again I like the red. Tad of the bottom for me.

Nice colours and details on the letter image, I think I would crop some off the top though as my eye keeps being distracted by the purple and yellow.

Juxta.....hmmm....like the sharpness of the ball & the colors , don't get the connection to the theme :thinking:

Letter....like this one a lot...focus looks about right with good DOF , great colors & angle :thumbs:

Hi, Michael, :clap: for catching up, most folk, I suspect, would have dropped out.

Electric, cracking train, well composed. Nice leading lines me on theme. Just needs a bit of pop, IMO.

Direction, well spotted and nice bit of humour. Well composed, and what looks like nice light.

Tacky, all the way :D no real crit, I even like the purple hue, adds to the tackiness.

Value, B&w works well and we should definitely value such a cracking train. Nice bit of steam. Looks a tad under exposed and I wonder what a slightly wider field of view would look like.

Greed, doesn't scream Greed. Nine the less if it was as bit as you say then it has a healthy appetite and plenty of food :D I do like the OOF FG vegetation.

Angles, yeah, plenty on Angles in there, even with the inclusion of the shadow.

Rustic I like, Caitlin (sp?) has been pushed to th right of th RH third. Liking the processing to add to the Rustic feel.

Kind, how can anyone critique that one. Screams love and kindness....eye contact is my only crit :D

The train was awkward, it was taken on york station and I got it just as it was going out as we were leaving after watching the bittern and union of south africa steam locos.

Tacky took me a good few goes to get the pp rught, at one point I was ready to bin it, but left it and went back to it, gave it the tint as it really needed something adding to it, that was a tough theme!

With the train I have a couple here I could have used, one from mid april and another from the same day. I was on the same platform as the train and my widest lens is 28mm (14mm pancake on my g5) I want and need to go wider!

Rustic, it is Caitlin, the sun was right behind her and the sky was seriously blown, but it worked in my favour in the end.
 
Hi Michael :)

Electric - The train comes into the image nicely, shame the other trains are behind it as they distract from the front for me and would have liked to see the Electrical components emphasised - but that is an electric train so guess I should shut up :D

Direction - The clipped treetop is my only crit, a nice sign with clear direction

Tacky - My OCD want's it more central, but certainly some tacky gifts there :)

Value - Like that one, can't beat a good ole steam train, the B&W suits very well :thumbs:

Greed - Nicely picked out through the trees/undergrowth :thumbs:

Angles - Fits Rustic for me too, a very nice image that mate :clap:

Rustic - Again a lovely image, is it a bit blown to the left? but a real nice feel to it anyway :)

Kind - Awweeee bless... that's a lovely picture :)

Sorry comments not in depth but I'm catching up on them !!

And again a big wowsers at the mighty catchup :clap:

Out of them all I like value love the steam surrounding the train and B+W suits it.
Really like rustic too even though as someone pointed out it blown on the left its such a good portrait of your daughter :clap:
 
Thanks Allan and Dk, the electric train was a pain, I took some from an open platform, but there were signs and people in the way, plus the light was not brilliant, so exposure was a complete night mare, I just managed this in time! I do know of another location, if I can refind it that be better.
Looking at tacky again, I noticed it wasn't central, but hey ho :D
Rustic is a bit blown, but I have got used to it now.

The steam train was fun, everyone was completely steamed out nobody could see a thing! Must try and sort the videos out.

No worries on the brief comments, all are appreciated and there were a fair few pics too :thumbs:

good cathc up - from a loooong way behind too!!

liking the fence for angles, well composed and processed, rustic of your little girl is great - well processed again, done well to have none of the long forground grass interfering with the shot, her litle flower clutched in her hand helps immensely!

Little lad needs his arms to grow a bit, but seems lucky to have a big sis to look out for him. :thumbs:

Vertical I might say just a slither off the LHS, to decentralise the sign, and make the shot itself more vertical, do like a bit of SC, I does. :thumbs: works super well here!

Electric...yuop , nice n sharp but doesn't grab me..always diffcult to get shots like this with clean bg's

Value....no really connection to the theme BUT....IT'S A CRACKING SHOT ....love everything about it :clap:

Rustic...nicely processed , well positioned & good eye contact...bit to much blown out rhs but maybe that adds to the aged feel ?

Greed.....not a clear enough shot for me but sure looks like one greedy moggy

Angles...like the overall image , good detail in most of the posts but the lhs seems a bit blown ? mono suits & pletny of angles going off in there :)

electric, those trains were certainly a pain! I will probably do a re-shoot of it when I find another location.
Rustic, it's blown like mad but it certainly adds to the image I think.
Greed, was the best angle I could get on it and really wanted to catch up.
Angles, it was an infra red b+w preset in elements which did blow it a bit, but I really liked it and it stood out really nicely with this conversion.

Right on theme for me and loving the detail on the right side of the water:) not sure if its me (or the way Im looking at this ) just seem a little stanted, but well spotted and still a very good shot IMO:clap:
