weekly michael23's 3rd 52, Completed

Hi Michael , hope you're doing ok matey

very seasonal image , like the pp , maybe crop rhs up to the lampost ?

Snows all gone down here...:'(

Hey Michael :)

Season - The sign is too much for me mate, everything else is sort of shaded by the snow bar the sign, if it were black or a dark grey it wouldn't bother me - other than that mate it fits the theme well and looks bloody miserable :D

Thanks everyone, currently using the app so can't multi quote. I attempted a crop upto the lamp post but I felt it didnt look right. The sign, I suppose it is quite prominent, probably because it is lit up ? Still got snow around here, had a couple of inches today. Hoping for more lol

I think this a great shot Michael and fits the theme perfectly!

I like it - is the purpley / red colour intentional? Also looks good with just a simple desaturate applied to it.

Like the composition having the houses to the left and right sides of the shot, and the snow falling through the lights.

I like the shot, very wintry
But that sign's screaming to be edited out, or changed to "summer, coming soon "

Hard to add to what has already been said so I won't.

Just popped in to say that I hope you're doing ok, sorry to hear of your loss and well done for sticking to your challenge in difficult circumstances. Keep at it mate.

:)

Yes, the colour tone was added in pp, thanks very much for the comments.

Im on the derbys/ notts border :)

Not too far from the borders myself, a610 is 15-20 minutes ish.

 I shall leave the sign in, though it would probably be better if the shop sign wasn't in view.

Thanks for popping in Brian, much appreciated, things are almost back to normal.

Wonder what week 3 will bring us!

Right, been a long 10 days since I last posted, I have 2 options for gravity, and to be honest, this will be a theme I will reshoot when we get a reshoot card drawn. Really have not felt like lugging my camera around and had my grandmas funeral on my mind too, so not much inspiration.

I did however get these 2 pics of my daughter sledging, on the day her school was closed and both are mobile phone pics while she was moving at quite some speed, so glad they have come out as well as they have. And I am very pleased snapspeed is available on my galaxy s2, great little app!

Week 3, Gravity, Option 1 by scilly puffin, on Flickr

Got annoyed at myself with this 2nd one, as I had downloaded a new camera app, which gives better on screen controls, but I didn't notice until upload that the image size was 640x480, I had to purchase the pro version to be able to shoot at the full resolution :bonk::bonk: One cock up I won't make again! I was very close to being sledged over here

And whilst I am here, getting some pics Of Xavier for my 365 project of him growing up, Caitlin says I will hide and jump and be wild for you!

Hey Michael... hope your keeping well :)

Gravity - Liking both of them, especially for phone shots !!! caught the action VERY well...

Minor crit - 1st, black blob above hat, or is that part of her hat - 2nd something about the crop, not sure if it needs a dead central landscape or more of a portrait

Wild - Love that, excellent detail and a great expression - that's a keeper for sure

Hi Michael - sorry to hear of your tough times, sometimes a distraction can be useful...

Love the first sledging shot for gravity, think the black bit above her hat is a bloke standing behind - don't think it'd be too hard to replace him with another tree if you had time.

And wild is great - the wrinkles in the nose, the flyaway few strands of hair, the narowing of the eyes and the Roar are all perfectly combined here

love them all - great shots Michael :)

I prefer the 2nd for the Gravity theme, and your wild photo is really good.

Hi, quick comments, I'm afraid: liking your wild, nice sense of movement and Snapseed is, indeed a cracking app

Cheers.

Hi Michael,

I think considering they're mobile phone shots they've come out really well, especially the first one  Snapseed really is an awesome App!

Wild  I had similar ideas for my not so delicate daughter, just need time and decent weather to get her out and 'acting' for me! But I think you've caught her just right here and the B&W works well too

The second Gravity shot for me, the first a little over processed IMO.

Love Wild, good effort. Only crit - the hair on the right side.

Big thanks everyone for popping in and giving your comments and critique. The black blob, I tried to clone it out but it didn't work, I have since however found that the clone tool needed resetting, so will probably do an edit on it at some point.

Well ive got to say your wild just made me laugh! Really like your second gravity too really smart shot!

Hi Michael

Gravity - 2 good shots, both on theme. #1 seems to have more implied movement because of the slope in the b/g and your daughter's concentration. I like the muted colours against the snow. Its a good shot

wild - Spot on - what a good model. Super detail and like the comp with the 'wild creature' coming out of its lair.

Nice wild theme going on, super composition and great processing

Thanks Alan and Dave

Right, Space, went for a star trail from my garden. Did this last night which started with a nice clear sky. Left my camera for a couple of hours and shot at iso 800 and 30 second exposures. Unfortunately cloud cover came in at some point during the shoot :bonk: So I thought I would post this one anyway, just incase we have a cloudy week and while I think of something else.

Hopefully I can do this again at some point this week with better skies, and of course something in the foreground would be good too, but doubt I can get anywhere.

Polaris was a little to high to get in the view from my location and 18mm. So pointed it towards orion.

Week 5, Space #1 by scilly puffin, on Flickr

Pp'd a bit to get rid of light pollution

Good effort. I went for a similar shoot last night, but just can't seem to get the intervalometer on my nikon d7k setup right....very frsutrating to spend two hours and then realise you don;t have the shots!

Well done, those are some great trails. I'd be tempted to remove the "cut here" marks left by the planes, though.

Only time I tried photographing stars it was a disaster, so may have to give it another try this week, considering the theme.

as you say it needs something in the frame to give a feeling of size i think

Now that is annoying! I remember when I purchased my remote off ebay, which has a timer and everything, it just wouldn't work, so I now just have my camera on continuous and keep the remote shutter locked, so it fires the shots without any fuss. Hope you get yours sussed!

There are a lot of planes over my house, tonight was a quiet night! If you are going to give it a try, I used
iso800
30 second exposures triggered 1 after the other with my remote shutter locked.
Makes sure your high iso noise reduction is turned off as well, if its on it will kill your write speeds to your card and give you gaps in the trails.

A bit awkward from my garden, but I do have a church in a village just up the road.

Just adding this one in as an example of what I have got before with totally clear skies from my garden

Garden star trail by scilly puffin, on Flickr

That was 107 30sec exposures, taken in August last year.

Really nice trails, wish I could do these! I can't even see the stars at present! :D

Hi ya

#1 of your gravity shots...amazing that it's from a phone...lovely & sharp...just needs a bit more space top n bottom for me :)

Space....was gonna try one of those myself but didn't get round to it....you've given crit yourself but on theme & sharp as per Andy :)

Great shot, ive only tried once and didn't do that well.

Love the one you got last year.

Thanks for all the comments everyone  Yes, it is a tree in the bottom left hand corner.

Apologies for not getting round the threads lately, I was ill the other night and it's taken it's toll, and am really worn out.

These are fabulous trail shots Michael, I wouldn't have known where to start to do this. Good job!

wonderful trails.. I wouldn't know where to start for a shot like this!
