weekly Michael23's 2012 52 COMPLETED! WooHoo! Slide show added

Hi Michael, what great shots for short and flight....i've tried bird photography and found it so difficult to get anything decent and these are brilliant. The swan set is my favourite..only just though!

Carol

Lovely second set. The perfect shot for me would be the wing shape of number 2, with a reflection like number 1, but they are both stunning! The last one is beuatifully focused and exposed, but yes, it'd be better with the gull flying toward you :)

Mike, Carol and Mark, thanks very much for those comments. The swans were lucky shots in away, I just got round to an edge of a bush and got these before I got twigs in the way, there was just enough time to pan back very quickly and get the 2nd bird. As for the gull, I waited and waited and couldn't get one coming towards me, plus I was behind a screen too. Next time lol....

Short – That’s a crackingly sharp image. I love the colours and detail in the feathers

Flight – I really like the montage although as said there’s some noise in the images. Every respect though - getting anywhere close to shots like these takes some doing.

love the teal shot, very nice :-) for flight I prefer the 1st swan, wings downwards just look better I think :-)

You're just showing off now ;) Love the swan shots, if you had got a third it would have been a good candidate for a triptych!

The gull shot is perfectly exposed, I know it's going the wrong way, but it's still a good shot.
Probably shouldn't say gull & shot in the same sentence, if they come too close to where I work that's generally what happens to them:gag:

Hi Peter, thanks very much for your comments, much appreciated.

Hiya Marsha  It's a pitty I didn'r get another, it certainly would have made for a good triptych. Maybe next time :D

You've been busy this week Michael, a lot of images there:thumbs:

I like the montage, lots of interest in there that shows the birds from different aspects.
The swan images get my vote though, good work on the panning. The first swan shot would look good with a tighter, letterbox crop which would accentuate its long neck IMHO. You've handled the exposure well here, its not easy balancing the white bird against the dark blue water. Iain

Hi Michael, you've had a busy week!!

I like the montage pic, as people have said its a bit noisy but it does't stop me from enjoyng the story it portays!:)

I love your first swan pic, the exposure is spot on, I like the angle of its wings and also the reflection. Well done, its something I've tried and failed with in the past!!

Thank you Sarah

Week 19, Authroity! :bat:

I was wondering what to do with this without going down the obvious route, so was hoping to get something a little out of the box! This evening I found it!

And here it is... image number 1, thought this was rather cool! Didn't want to disturb the fbi agent though, so sneaked a quick pic!

Also I decided to do this one as well,

The AA, an authority in fixing broken down cars and motorbikes

aa van (authority #2) by scilly puffin, on Flickr

Got a very busy week ahead, will be glad when it's done!

Good use of the selective colouring, though the reds look a little bright on the AA van ... the FBI doggy-suit is quite amusing :D

Hi Michael. The AA shot doesn't do it for me I'm afraid; it's just a little too ordinary, even with the selective colour, and a little tentative for the theme I think.

The dog outfit though is great, and the SC helps it a lot. The contrast between the authority of the FBI and a dog that size is great!

And that's despite the fact that I hate the idea of dressing dogs up at all, with a passion!

Hi Micheal,

Love the FBI dog outfit! SC works very well.

Carol

yep I agree with Mark - AA is a good shot but not really on theme, although the dog suit is brilliant

Hi Michael

Flight - Swan 1 wins it for me out of the 3, as said by others Great shape to the wings and a reflection too - great shot !!!

Thanks very much :)

Hi Gramps, I processed it like that to try and give it a little bit extra and make it more interesting. The FBI dog shot is my favourite. Laughed out loud when I saw it. The shop was shut so this was photographed through the window.

Hi Mark, I understand what you mean about the AA shot, it is a little loose on the theme, but I quite liked it so decided to include it. I have seen plenty of hideous outfits for dogs, but this one I liked :D

Hi Carol, thanks for popping by, pleased you like it

Hi Summer, thanks for the comments, the FBI dog is my fave

I'm with Southdowns. Why dress a dog up. The closest we get are aquafleece coats for soaking the water up after they get wet. Mind you we've got spaniels and that's what they do second best. First best is getting very muddy

The AA shot therefore just wins it for me although a little less DoF might of accentuated the van more.

Hi, Michael, is the dog actually in there :D

AA, hmmmm, there is a link...just

I'd like to see it from the rear, using the yellow links to draw the eye in. Shallow DOF might be better.

Well, it's Thursday tomorrow...so you've nearly made it.

Cheers.

 a doggy FBI suit! Initially I was wondering if Fluffy was hiding in there;)

Hi Marsha, :D Fluffy was watching when the picture was taken.

Hi Peter, thanks very much for your comments. Dressing up dogs is certainly a bit weird, but I couldn't resist this one. The AA van was taken at 5.6 and the lens I was using couldn't go much wider. If only I had my 200mm 2.8 on the time!

Hiya Andy, as for the dog, it may be :suspect: certainly didn't give it away if he was! I like your idea from the rear, as said shame I didn't have my 200 2.8 on.

would liked to have seen fluffy in the suit though it is a bit strange to dress dogs up mine would be horrified at the thought

Hi Michael

Late in commentng - sorry for that

Flight - #1 swan is a fine shot. Good wing position, good colurs, nice refelection - a real feeling of movement

Authority - not sure abuot the dog coat, doesn't really excite me but did make me smile. AA van just on theme I think and the SC works well for that shot

Hi Michael

had to smile at the FBI doggy...great spot & love the SC

Quite liking the AA van as well , nice strong colors against a drab background , & I do have a mega soft spot for SC so a big  from me

I found it hard to pick a favourite from your flight shots. Really good set. The AA one does it for me out the two.

'Authority' - I like the vibrant AA van, both the yellow and red selective colouring making it stand out from the drab street make the image work for me. Prefer this one to the FBI images which is quite humours - Nick

Hi Michael.

Found the dog suit amusing and obviously FBI is authority, but the AA van!! not to sure!!

Short, excellent, clear and sharp, and very short legs ;)...

Flight, love the montage... of the new ones, I really do like the first swan, but the gull begs a caption... well caught with the beak open.

Authority... Gonna go with the AA Van, the vibrant colours work really well against the backdrop. Gotta say though, the doggy jacket is funny.

Ah can't help on that one.. I'm struggling enough with food...

Well, was beginning to think I was going to be late with this one! Been a mad and busy week and not even had time to pick the camera up! Also no inspiration for this theme whatsoever! But I did manage something tonight, just grabbed the compact as it was the easiest to get to and after a few shots I settled with this one and edited it to give some mood to it maybe a marmite shot? Oh and it's an sp too

fits the theme but took me a while to see what it was i like the grainy feel and the exposure of it

Hi, Michael, interesting interpretation. Good B&W with grainy feel to it. You've done well with the lighting...just the palm of the left hand looks a tad over exposed.

The composition, I feel, could be better, though. It may work better with left arm where it is and the right arm extended, palm out, towards the camera.

Cheers.

Hi Michael

On theme and good idea.

I like the treatment and the pose but agree with Andy about the right hand. I find the thumb over the ear and the white bits at the bottom a bit distracting as they are hard to work out what they are, thus having me peer at those areas rather than the subject. But overall I think it is a good shot
