Week 1 - can't say anything that's not already been said, it's a great image.
Week 2 - Beautiful image and a charming poem, they comliment each other perfectly. I love the DOF, the colours and the pin sharp focus on the staymen.

Love that lily, sharp, colourful and no wasted space make for a great pic. Wk 1... I like too, but not as much as wk 2 :D

I love the composition and lighting for this shot, I was a bit confused with all the leaf comments until I read that you have now removed it ;). As others have said the DoF is spot on (which is hard to do so ).

The other shots from the day are also really good too, I especially like the one that doesn't have the stamens in the frame - it's different.

thanks for comments, appreciate it..

wish i'd taken that curvy lily shot for the week one theme ;)

week 3 - chopped..

thanks guys.. was fiddly trying to get the stitching done.. pity the background is a bit murky.. try as I might I can never get a bright white one!

Week 1 - i like the shot but i get the feeling it either needs a bit more sky or a tighter crop to remove the sky.

Week 2 - Loverly shot -Well framed and exposed with good colours.

Week 3 - Well executed different take on the theme.

Hi Michelle

Sorry I'm a bit late but I've just found you :D

Week 1, those lobster pots certainly meet the theme and I like the PP.

Week 2, Simple poem and simple image to go with ti. But simple is deceiving as it is really difficult to get the stamens and pistil all in focus so a great job well done.:clap:

Week 3, made me laugh  what a nutty idea but has worked really well for the theme.

Great start to your 52

agree with that, was considering cropping it to remove the top row of baskets..!

thanks for comments all :)

 'Chopped' is just brilliant, loving it.

You dont say how you set it up, but if you give a bit of info, we might be able to help get those white backgrounds white for you ;)

thanks Yv, I have a frosted glass back door so set up on a chair infront of this to give lots of natural light.. had a large laminated poster curved on seat and back with the orange on that.. had a couple of desk lamps tried using these to give more light but still not great despite trying lots of postions, with/without light.. different WB settings.. could have done it later when processing I suppose but didnt fancy trying with that needle and cotton

OK, I think for this shot you could have lived without the lamps tbh. I am looking at it on a decent screen now and its not that bad tbh but mixing desklamps and natural light is always gong to throw the WB out and make things more difficult to balance. The natural light looks to have been coming from camera left, so perhaps another piece of white paper or tin foil on the right to reflect some of it back onto subject would have been better than lamps. Get the camera on a tripod, or something stable and use a slower shutter if needs be for this kind of stuff, afterall, its not going to move anywhere. ;) Set the WB to the background and it can be tweaked afterwards if absolutely necessary. Having said all that, as I said to begin with, it looks quite good on this screen, the white fades nicely to grey and tbh, its the darkness of subject that is a bigger [albeit still very minor] issue.

oh yes, one other tip, if you haven't got one, get a half circle upholstery needle, so much easier for joining your fruits :naughty:

Chopped is a great idea. Must have taken a bit of effort to stitch together and no doubt some pricked fingers. I think Yv has pretty much summed up everything above about the lighting so I won't go on :)

Loving the photo for chopped :) great idea and execution!

thanks Yv,

I did try with and without the lights.. my camera was on a tripod but couldn't get it low enough to be directly face on so perhaps the angle down didnt help either?.. thanks for tip about reflector!.. didnt think about a slow shutter speed as usually just use aperture priority, have noticed a few mentions of slow shutter speed for still life and tried it after this shot for my 365.. liked the results so is something I will try again!

was cursing the fact I only had straight needles

thanks for comments all :)

I love a piccie that makes you laugh, and then stop and think... excellent.

Chopped is great Michelle.

I would never have thought of sewing different fruits together.

Must have taken a while to get right.

How many citrus fruits were harmed in the making of that shot?

I have a whole hour before I go to work (again) so I'm taking the opportunity to visit as many 52's as I can.

I love the simplicity of this, the colours really pop against each other and the stitching is inspired.

Very clever and 10/10 for originality.
I struggled so much to come up with a creative idea this week and then I look at some of these and can't believe that none of this occurred to me.

Nice colours and lighting and I bet that stitching was hard to get right!

thanks ever so much for comments..

the stitching would have been easier with a curved needle but wasnt so bad really, just a bit fiddly.. did all the stitches loose then tightened to finish off

Very clever  clearly chopped and well done on the stitching skills... works for me.

week 4 - Street

'Canal Street"

not 'The' Canal Street but the delightfully named Nob End area of the Bury and Bolton canal :)

Nob End, heheh, you said Nob!

I know you were probably going for a silhouette on the left, but I feel I want to see the details of the house, being a nosy b****r.
But what a beautifully exposed sky, the clouds look ace in mono, and the reflections on the cobbles are really cool!

I love the curve of the bank leading us into the picture too.
