Hi am thinking about going to Mexico ( next spring) for the first time for a family holiday( adults no children )
Am looking for a nice fairly quiet place with a beach that's a bit away from it all where I can go for a wander in the morning with my camera and look for birds to photograph
We used to go to Cuba, Cayo Coco and guillermo and the hotels are on the beach with mangrove lagoons and forest inland at the back had a fantastic time I used to get up early and go looking for birds and them come back for breakfast and then relax with family all day
I do want to go back to Cuba but they want to visit the historic aztec sites in Mexico
Are there places in Mexico that are like this ?:)

We stayed and got married in Cancun at the Gran Caribe Real in 2000, it was a fantastic hotel at the time but has since changed hands...So not sure what it's like now. I didn't have much interest in photography then, but there was a lagoon opposite the hotel with Crocs in and varies different birds which I cant quiet remember the names of. We used to use the lagoon for a water taxi around the resort.

We also visited Isla Mujeres which had dolphins, a poor zoo, turtle conservation, small sharks, plus seeing the reef on the way over on the glass bottom boot.

At the time, the food, drinks, service and cleanliness was amazing at this hotel and I'm fussy.

This is the hotel we stayed in > http://www.playaresorts.com/Gran-Caribe-Cancun/Amenities

We went to Playa Del Carmen about 4 years ago. It's south of Cancun . We chose it as we wanted somewhere a little quieter also. It was perfect in every way. We stayed at the adults only Royal Playa Del Carmen hotel, it was directly on the beach, couldn't fault it at all. You get a lot of hotel for your money in Mexico. We managed to get over to Chichen Itza in a taxi, its a long way, it took 4hours to get there, 4hours there and 4 hours back for £200. I will say as a bird photographer myself it was a bit disappointing. This is where we stayed. http://www.playaresorts.com/The-Royal-Playa-Del-Carmen
