Has anybody heard of MeWe? I have not seen the site before, and only found it via a link on a faceberk group. As the group on faceberk says" no selling on their FB group, go to our other group on MeWe, as it is less strict".

Wiki says, "The site's interface has been described as similar to that of faceberk (edit), although the service describes itself as the "anti-Facebook" due to its focus on data privacy".

I don't really do FB, only to look for certain sports related stuff, and that is only once every so often, I am not on it daily. It is not a forum like TP, so I do hope it is OK to post about it here.

I think you have to sign up to browse groups. But they sate, "MeWe is social media with No Ads, No Spyware & No BS". Not sure if that is true, might explore it a little more.

I am not suggesting the above as an alternative to TP, but an alternative to faceberk. As I was looking for sporting groups in my local area, but faceberk is annoying to use.

I run a daily group on it, and set up a Sony Full Frame group a few years ago on it, not as great as here on TP but better than FB hands down. I won't link my groups as against forum rules.
On a good note TP will be fine for many years.

I do hope TP does continue for many more years to come, as it is one of the best forums around.

I was looking for a local sports group in my area, and I was looking at groups. But I really dislike faceberk, as it really is too intrusive.

Just to note*

* I am not suggesting an alternative to the TP forum, I am looking at an alternative to faceberk, for sports groups.

There are quite a few Sport ones in the groups.

Even though I joined it a good while ago it is a damn sight better than FB, plenty of groups for Sport and the list goes on and on for many more.

Ok thanks, will give it a try I think. I think FB is a little too intrusive, especially with their algorithms. :)

Just signed up and having a good nose, for sports group related stuff. While on their site, it is scary what they say FB is harvesting. :shifty:

I had a 'look' for this and some aspects look concerning???

It sounds like their next member could be Trump......its lack of moderation would suit him down to the ground!

So none too sure what to make of it, perhaps a well intentioned project in danger of being hi-jacked by more radical groups???

Been looking through it, and it has nowhere near the amount of users as Faceberk. Not too sure on it really, don't know if there are any better alternatives.
For joining and creating groups, such as sports groups.

Fully support the idea behind it, only time will tell if it will become a replacement to Facebook though.

It’s not quite the same thing but I have found nextdoor to be very useful locally. I found the owner of a lost mobile phone through it and some mis-delivered pharmacy prescriptions and Amazon deliveries — I’ve mentioned before that the house numbering etc is very confusing round here and my house seems to attract wrong (as well as right thankfully) deliveries.

Many of my immediate neighbours are on it, which has proved useful during the past year.

It was U.K. in origin but I think was snapped up by US as usual :(.

Don't know what to make of MeWe. Don't see any reason at all to trust them. "Focus on data privacy" ............ what does that mean - keeping private what they don't want you to know about what you should be permitted to know.

I don't know what to make of them either. I will keep looking for an alternative. :)

i like facebook it has so much going for it, forums of all sorts and through a nice simple interface
if folk think avoiding it will keep there data out of the clutches of people they are deluding themslevles
embrace it, get on with it, move on.

I don't like the way faceberk does certain things. If I post talking about a camera, it keeps adding it to market place thinking I am selling something.
It sometimes holds a post for review, saying "making sure content is suitable for marketplace". This is when I post on my own wall, talking about a camera or something.
So there are some things, or rather a lot I don't like about faceberk.

I know its an alternative to FB, but there des seem to be a lot of FB bashing going on....
