Hi,

I have been given a metz 45 CL-3 system SCA 300 Flashgun. (minus the SCA300 hotshoe adaptor)

So all I have is the gun and a sync cable.

I would like to use this with my Nikon D90 if possible? can anyone shed any light on this subject and recommend what I need to get it working, ie hot shoe adaptor or the like.

Also I have read that the Nikons are not as susceptible to flash triggering voltages as canons etc? so would this flash do any damage to my D90?

Many thanks for the help, looking forward to playing with this new gift.

I doubt if your gun is compatable with your D90 and I would be afraid the trigger voltage might fry the camera's electronics.

These guns are great - I used one with my FE2 and then my 5700 but not with the D90. Using a remote trigger it should be possible to make it work remotely, but I wouldn't risk it with a modern camera connected directly. For the record, in the same place as you are now, I bought a Metz 50 AF-1 and haven't regretted it as it gives full i-TTL and off camera flash by remote operation or TTL cable and a battery charge lasts longer.

If you insist on using a 45CL-type flash gun, there is a digital version which will give full compatability with your D90 if you buy the correct adapter to go along with it, but will cost £400 - 450.

Hope this helps, but like me, you won't find too many on here who would say to try it and see what happens as it could prove expensive in the long-run!

Should be fine. All Nikon DSLRs are rated up to 250 volts.
