Hi,i've said in an earlier post that i want to try some stuff in photography other than my normal motorsport ,don't get me wrong i've a real enthusiasm for it , i just fancy trying other techniques ,especially after seeing some fantastic photos on this forum it makes me green with envy.
Right, what i've come on here for is to find out, what is the proper way to meter a landscape with a bright sky and dark foreground .I've read about some people metering off the sky and then the foreground and taking an average reading ,is this correct, and how is this done . Thanks for looking and apologies for the long winded question...:)

Ooops me thinks this is in the wrong thread ... is it folks?..

I just did a quick search for "meter" and there are 6 pages of results, maybe worth starting there and see what does and doesn't make sense.

I'm sure everyone has there own way of doing it and there are numerous ways. Taking just A one shot, I use exposure compensation and expose for the brightest part of the sky.....However, like you said, you could take an average from two readings. You could also use nd grads to hold the sky back OR if you use a tripod you could take two shots one exposed for the sky and the other for the foreground, then layer these in PS OR even take three bracket exposures and hdr them.
HTH.
Ken.
