Until now, I have used DPP and a very old version of Paint Shop Pro to do my post-processing. I decided that over Christmas I would download the trial versions of LR3 and PSE10 to see whether I'd get enough benefit from buying new software.

I gave PSE10 a quick try to start with, but then switched to LR3 for no particular reason. I'm really impressed with LR3, but to give both a fair trial I've now gone back to try PSE10 in more depth. The problem is all new raw files Organizer picks up are being set to a grainy B&W. The ones it loaded before Christmas are still colour. I'm sure I've messed up the default raw conversion options somewhere, but I can't work out where they are stored. And then, when that is fixed, can I get it to re-import the B&W ones?

Your not applying a preset on import are you?, I don't use elements but when you open one of the raw in the raw converter there is a default (in blue) just under the tint slider.
What happens if you click that, does the b+w image go back to colour or stay b+w?

Any settings/pre-sets you made in Lightroom like b&w will be used by ACR in Elements.

If you do not want this to happen then where it says basic click on the drop down menu tab and change it from custom to camera raw defaults.

Thanks all. Resetting Camera Raw Defaults has fixed it.

The existing images have remained B&W, but I can live with that.
