I've recently upgraded to a new MacBook so I copied my photos folder which contained my lightroom catalogue over to my NAS so could wipe the old MacBook ready to sell etc.

I now have my new MacBook so I installed lightroom copied the photos folder and catalog over to the new drive where I wanted to store it

I've now opened up Lightroom and opened the catalogue but lots of my albums are missing. The ones there I've been able to relink to the new location fine.

But no idea what to do about the rest as surely the changes I made to photos in the missing albums should still be in the catalogue but how do I re-add the album or is it just a case of re-importing the album back in and Lightroom?

Did you copy it or export as a catalogue using LR?

I just copied the lot didn't know u could even export.
Strange thing is some of the albums are there fine.

What Abobe advise is that you "do everything in Lightroom" - so the best way is to "Export as a Catalogue" and then all the adjustments etc., which are stored in small files attached to the image, are retained
Just copying a folder using the Finder will not, (shouldn't), work

Apple also have a migration assistance which you can use to copy from one Mac to another using an ethernet cable

I think I've managed to some how create more than one catalogue. I've found another hard drive with a load of the albums on whith my changes but i just need to work out if its possible to merge 2 catalogues together!

You say upgraded. Time machine? Isn't that part of what it's for? I did my iMac that way and no issues with Lightroom at all. Rich

Ok i beleive what i need to do it export catalogue from this older one I've just found and then open my newer catalouge and import from catalogue. This will have me pretty much back to where i was.

I've got some serious spring cleaning on do on this!!

Did you manage to get this sorted in the end? I have a few catalogues knocking around, but have not made time to consolidate them. Was it a fairly painless process?

Yeah I worked out the ones were missing were the ones I originally edited in Aperture before I moved over to Lightroom. Be nice to re-edit them in lightroom to be honest.
