Merge Lightroom catalogs to one

Hi,

I have a few LR catalogs on my C drive. All My photos are on different external drives where I want them to stay.

All I want to do is just merge the catalogs in one catalog so when I plug in an external drive it will locate the photos.

If I understand your question correctly all you have to do is select 'File' > 'Import from another Catalog'.

As David said, all you have to do is start Lightroom from you preferred catalogue. Then simply use the File > Import from another catalogue and it should do just that.

Is it moving the original files or just merging the LRCAT file?

I had a similar problem when I combined my cataglogues. I found that as well as converting to DNGs, lightroom had also created backups of the original CR2 files and renamed them ORIGINAL files. It might be worth having a look if something similar has happened in your case and clawing back some file space that way.

I tend to have all my images from this year in a separate catalog and everything else - going back to 2005 - in a separate archive catalog. It means my current year's catalog is fairly nippy, but the drawback is that I have a lot of unprocessed images in the archive that I only look at very rarely.
