Mercedes go with Brawn

I hope Jenson doesn't get a drive. This whole debacle with Ross just shows his lack of loyalty, that coupled with the Williams saga back in the day, plus he's not a a real racer...

Not a fan!!!

I get the feeling Jenson knew Mercedes would take over Brawn and turn it into a German team.. hence why he seems interested in going with a British Team (Mclaren)

I dont think Jenson has a lack of loyalty - seems way off mark. Especially when he paid millions to get out of a contract with Williams to stay with his team + helped Honda/Brawn through the winter last year when he could've just put his feet up and retired.

Rosberg is about/already signed with Brawn/Mercedes isn't he? I say give it a week and we will see Heidfeld signed there.

Its a shame as I dont think Brawn/Mercedes will challenge for much next year with that line-up.

Will be interesting to see what develops over the next month or so.

Raikkenon out of a drive then?

I do hope it falls flat in the face for them tbh, after what the drivers alone did for them last year was fantastic and Brawn hasn't kept faith and repaid them

How is it Brawns fault Witey? Yes Barichello did a good job but he's an old man in F1 terms so the teams needs to look to the future and bring through a younger driver. As for Button, he wants the going rate for a world champion, if Brawn can't afford the going rate then such is life.

Hamilton and Button both driving for Mclaren would be awesome.
Two brilliant British drivers in a British team would make my day.
It's a great shame about the Brawn team, I would have preffered them to have found an investor and retained the major share.
I really hope Mclaren can find a good engine for 2015.

Look at Williams with Mansell and Hill.
Neither of them were retained after winning the title.
I can't remember if the issue was down to money but in Jensons case, if Mclaren can afford to pay him more, it's not Brawns fault.

he has shown loyality though and said all along its not about money and wanted to stay with Brawn, Merc come along and now they want two drivers who are German

makes sense to me

being new to the sport and only in their second season would you not want a number 1 on your car next year? i know i would

Who is witey?

The theory is a nice one, but i just dont think they could pull it off. I really hope they do, but i just dont think the team would be sucessful with drivers with their personalities like that.

I do hope Jenson doesnt go to McLaren though, being a McLaren fan myself I would rather see Kimi or Glock (awaits Ferrari fans response lol) in the other car

Why not?
Lewis and Jenson would be great together.
They would be very competitve and this would perhaps bring the thrills back to F1.
For me it would mean both my favourite drivers driving for my team of choice.
Raikkonen going back to Mclaren would'nt make any sense.
I don't think his heart is in F1 anymore judging on his performance with Ferrari this year.

Personalities have clashed in F1 teams before and they've quite often learned to be tolerante but you have made a very valid point.
Would their egos play a major part?

Having watched F1 for years I don't rate Button, put him in a poor car he doesnt do much, put Lewis in a bad car he drives the socks off it

I just think from my own point of view that Jenson would turn into another Hekki and its not what the team want

Kimi hasn't had the best Ferrari built and drove the socks off that since Felipe's accident, he never looked better towards the end of the season and looking ahead its that kind of fight and team spirit McLaren wants IMO

I've said the same about Jenson for years but I've supported him because he is a Brit.
Lewis reminds me of one certain retired German driver who did the best with the supplied car wether it be a lemon or not.
I'd just to Jenson get a decent drive for next year and see how he performs.

The other thing for Jenson as well is he could quickly turn into a second driver to Lewis should Lewis beat him early on and he not get used to the car quickly

It would be interesting as Brits to see but I don't think its the best way to go

I think I agree, Button will be found out very fast at Maclaren, Hamilton is the better driver by some way(or at least looks like it!)

I think the sport wont miss Raikkenon but he is a former world champ, and does have his moments

Unless I am mistaken, isn't next years championship going to be based on race wins rather than points?
I really like the idea of that as it makes sense rather than the possibilty of winning on points.

Lewis also has the upperhand as he knows how Mclaren do things and regardless of a new car, he will still have an advantage.
As whitey and matty have pointed out, Jenson could end up playing second fiddle and this would probably affect his morale as much as anything else.
If that was the case it wouldn't be good for him or the team.
So perhaps in hindsight, the idea of seeing then both in the same team would be nice but not for the sport itself.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see a pair of Germans in the new German team (albeit made in England!), with (according to at least one site) a pair of Nic(k)s being favourites for the jobs. Let's not forget that Button took a hefty pay-cut for 2009 (which sounds more, 62.5% or 5 million pounds?) and repaid the team with a WDC and a significant contribution to their WCC as well so him wanting fair recompense next year seems fair to me, especially when compared to the Finnish underwhelming boozehound's Ferrari wagepacket!

That was one of BCE's ideas which got shot down IIRC. The idea was that it would extend the championship by making it harder for a driver to seal the WDC too early in the season. This year, Button would actually have been WDC a few races ago rather than it going down to the last race.

Whoops! My mistake. It appears that it was a 70% cut and 7 million pounds, from his original £10M to his final £3M. Of course, there's some external sponsorship and endorsement cash on top of that but it was still a hefty wage cut however you look at it!

Hmm interesting one, for sure Jenson can drive a car fast, but he isnt the best at setup work, how many times this year have we heard he was using his team mates settings?

Glock i feel is the same deffo a good driver, but maybe not the best development driver.

Kimi on his day is unstopable, then others just seems to lack motivation, can problerly drive around poor setups, and the progress Ferrari made would sugest he can help develop a car, being a Ferrari fan i wont really miss him as he never really set the place alite, and seems very boring. But would most likely be a better team mate for Hamilton.

I don't suppose anyone noticed Jenson wringing the arse off the Honda for several years, in a dog rough car that even the mighty Schumacher could not have got beyond mid-field in? Maybe just me, I am daft like that. :|

...I hope Jenson doesn't go to McLaren, anyone that wants to live in the shadow of the chosen one is frankly mad, they will NEVER get the support of their team over their team mate....but I have a horrible feeling.... :shake:

he didnt wring the arse off it though, he poddled around in it whining about how bad it was

There appears to be more to this story than meets the eye if you read the stories coming out from Brawn about Buttons departure...

Certainly some sour grapes!

Raikkenon out of a drive then?
depends where you read...
one story says he is going into Rally - the other says Mercedes are keen to sign him - but like most Drivers - he's greedy when it comes to money

Button has made a bad move - and I agree with Fry, why should they let him get out of his contract early.... I used to like Button - but he has a big job in 2010 to win back some of his fans...

On the other hand - it shows you how much respect people have for Ross Brawn - he pulled it around to a point where he is reported to be walking away with £30million out of this deal - good on him

He'll get something 17million from Ferrari if he doesnt race in F1 next year, or what ever a new team may offer him. Doubt he'll race if he cant make the same as not driving.

interesting....
