Hello!

Had a very near miss today around 2:30pm.

Heard a loud bang out the front of the house - looked out of the window and was shall we say, somewhat taken aback, to see the neighbours front garden brick wall (about 10 ft long and 4ft high) lying strewn in pieces across the pavement. The wind had basically knocked the whole lot over, and half of their neighbour's wall too.

Had the wall been a course of bricks higher, it would have crashed into the side of my car. It wasn't until I checked my CCTV camera footage and actually saw the wall go over, that I realised just how close I came to my car being majorly damaged. We're talking literally inches away.

Five other neighbours came out of their houses and helped to clear up the mess. We managed to shift probably half a ton of bricks in about five minutes between us.

Despite the problems, people pulling together like this makes me realise why it is that I like living here. I have some really great neighbours.

My drug dealing neighbour's wife at the other side also came out, and for some reason found the situation amusing. Bad apples in every barrel, I suppose...

At least no one sounds to have been injured, thats the most important thing belongings such as cars and walls can be replaced. I know it is hard, but look on the bright side :) glad everything was ok,

No, nobody was hurt. Although the neighbours have an 8 month old baby and they'd gone out about 15 minutes before the wall collapsed. Their car was parked just ahead of mine and anybody standing next to it loading a baby into a car at the time would have been hit by a large pile of falling bricks. It could have worked out very different today.

We had a accident outside our house about a year ago now and knocked our wall four doors down into their car, the neighbours two doors down had just nicely got inside there house after taking the two kids out of the car and the new pram out of the car boot as she was pregnant again, five minutes later the car was a right off and another car was parked in the boot. If anyone had been on the pavement it would have been a nightmare.

Was at the Ford dealers getting a water pump fixed on me focus, when an ambulance went by around 3.30 ish, unfortunately I think from word of mouth a tree had fallen and killed someone...not nice.

We've got some tiles off of our roof. We only had some put back on Monday after they blew off last weekend. Bloody shody house builders, the house is only a few years old. Apparenly the roofer who came on Monday said only every fifth or sixth tile is actually nailed on so if this weather keeps up I fully expect to loose a few more.

plenty of bits of tree all over the road near me, and i reckon the factory will have a sunroof tomorrow, as a ridge tile and sheet were slapping around badly earlier

Well I want to hunt down and gut the owner of a patio table cover that managed to get tangled round my TV and Radio aerial :annoyed:

When I came home from work, it looked like Arkady had parachuted down and become hung up on the mast, ripping the mast off the house and leaving the whole lot swinging on the coax.

It's a good job the sky still works or i'd be lost

youve got CCTV at HOME!?!

Still remains to be seen if the builders just used sand instead of a cement mixture. Otherwise the wall would still be there (unless it was drystone)

Apparently all of Doncaster was in gridlock this afternoon as the roof blew off the Rovers' Stadium and trees were crashing everywhere.... according to my sis anyway.

My car had a near miss - we have a 6ft wooden gate which literally blew off it's hinges and landed about 6" away from the front of my car

I'm about five miles from Belle Vue!

There was me and a load of other residents outside, including one neighbour who is about 5ft tall and as far across - he's a bouncer. I'm 6ft3 and 20 stone, so no lightweight. All of us were having trouble just staying on our feet, let alone moving a mountain of bricks at the same time.

Trouble where we live, is that there is very little south of here for miles, so when the wind is coming from anywhere between the southwest and the southeast, we basically take the full force of it. I've lived in this area for 29 of my 31 years and I can't say I've ever seen anything like this here before.

Yep, recording 24/7. I live next door to a crack den and have had threats to put my windows thru, plus somebody has keyed my car a couple of months ago.

A house was blown down in Warrington, must have been a big wolf.
I saw quite a few articulated lorries on there sides today on my way back from leicester, and plenty of trees destroyed.

Took me 6 hours to do a 1hr 15 minute journey on the trains today !

The whole rail system leaving London and heading North shut down for a few hours this afternoon ! Not a happy bunny ! lol

Did the driver have wind as well  :D

You´re right about the mental weather, it was 28 in the shade here yesterday. It´s gets that hot I have to retreat to the poolside bar and drink more beer.

Having fun in Tenerife,
Stephen

Well, turns out my near miss.... er.... wasn't. :(

Went out this morning and noticed the back tyre was completely flat. Got down to change it to the spare, and noticed a large dent in the sill below the door, just in front of the wheel. Looks like it copped for the corner of one of the bricks.:annoyed: :annoyed:

Not at all happy.
