ATM i have a lexar 1GB compactflash premium series..

I really want to upgrade to mabye 4gb 8gb or mabye 16gb at a push. I have a canon eos 400d. Does anyone know any good memory cards, or is anyone selling them on here?

Francesca

i use lexar 8gb cards. looking to replace them with sandisk extremes in the coming month however as they come highly recommended

Sandisk Extreme III are about the best value vs performance cards you can get atm. Just make sure you buy from a reputable source and definately NOT from Ebay

It may cost a tad more but I would suggest getting 2x8gb cards rather than 1x16gb one.

One big card smacks of putting all your eggs into one basket and gives you the ability to lose an awful lot of shots at once if it all goes pear shaped.

Bought a 4GB sandisk extreme III yesterday from PC world 110% pricematched agaist play.com

Play = £17.99

PC world = £13.80 :D

buggered if I can work out how they get £13.80?

400d is roughly 100 RAW pics per GB - you might want to take that into consideration when buying! I use 2GB so at most i lose 200 pix if something happens to the card.

GOOD SHOUT, I'm looking for another.

Whats the difference between the SanDisk Extreme III CompactFlash and SanDisk Extreme II CompactFlash cards?

I

Other than the extra "I" lol it turns out the min read and write speeds are 20MB/s compared to the MKII model which is 10MB/s. PC world currently have the Extreme 3 at £89.99 but play.com has it for £39.99.

On the phone to PC World at the moment to see if they will stick to their price promise, which means not only will they match the price but give you an addtional 10% which means SanDisk Extreme III 8GB for £35.99 inc free P+P.

I bumped into someone in Calumet yesterday who had just spent £80 on an 8gb own brand card. I tried to persuade him to teke it back and get a Sandisk, but he reckoned that the calumet one must be a lot better as it was twice the price.....

They did it for £34.99 inc free P+P which is has the cheapest price iv seen for it for online.

For those looking to buy mem cards but are unaware of pcw pm'ing policy see post 9 this thread for full details http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=81060

and if anyone looking for cards bothered to use the search function first they'd save themselves a whole lot of time and money. Sorry for rant but this has been discussed several times in the past few weeks.

I really cant see what the problem is. I, for example don't get on this forum as much as I'd like and may not be "up to speed" on what has been discussed or not. I therefore either have to trawl through endless threads trying to find the information I require or I maybe have missed in my absence, or I can ask a question and pretty much get an instant response. I know which I prefer.
Isn't that what interaction/ communication is all about?
I'm sure by now that every question possible has been asked on the WWW. If so why bother to use forums, just google the question, job done.
But it may not be relevant or up to date with latest offers or infomation etc.

Anyway, I went into pcw to take advantage of their offer only to find out they had made a mistake and did not have the goods I had ordered, (2x Sandisk Extreme III 4gb CF cards) they only had the Extreme IV cards.
I then explained that I'd travelled 40 miles to take advantage of their offer and "was not happy" that they didn't have the goods that I had pre-ordered in stock.
In the end I went home with 2x Sandisk Extreme IV 4gb CF cards for £32.
I'm happy.

Ian

Nice one!
