Just got hold of a 5D3 and I'm looking to get some new cards for it. The way I want to shoot most of the time is full res RAW to both cards, but I understand that the CF card slot is a lot higher speeds so when I want to shoot high FPS stuff I will probably just write to the CF card slot.

What does the CF card slot top out at, would it be worth going for a x1000 or x1066card?

I read somewhere that the SD card slot max speed is only 133x is that correct?

Get a fast CF card (160MB) there is a benefit, don't write to both CF and SD at the same time.

You actually need to remove the sd card from the slot. Just having it in there not being written to slows things down.

thanks, guys but does anyone know the actual supported speeds? No point getting a 160mps card if the camera can only read at 100?

Is the sd card slot capped at 133x?

These are the results I got when I did some testing when I owned a 5D3. They're the average over several tests.

That's why I said that getting a 160 MB card had its benefits.

Can only vouch for Sandisk CF cards with these figures.

60MB/S Max RAW 13. Frames before FPS slowed 17. Time to clear buffer to Max RAW of 13 again 5.5 secs.

90MB/S Max RAW 13. Frames before FPS slowed 21. Time to clear buffer to max RAW of 13 again 4.0 secs.

160MB/S Max RAW 13. Frames before FPS slowed 25. Time to clear buffer to max RAW of 13 again 3.25 secs. This is a UDMA 7 card.
