Hi all,

I need some help, I recently purchased a 6D and with it came a brand new SanDisk 64gb 40 MB/s class 10 card. I unpacked the card and put it into the camera and formatted straight away, I then went outside to take a few test shots, I removed the card and put it into my card reader on the pc only to receive a ' Storage not formatted, format now' type message, oh well I thought I'll just format it and try again, when the menu box popped up to format, it only gave me a capacity of 1gb? That's not right I thought but maybe I'm in the wrong so I just formatted it anyway, I then removed card from pc and put back in camera, camera now displays, card full? total space 1GB? So I formatted it again in the camera and now have the full storage capacity back, took a photo, placed card in pc...and bam ' Storage not formatted, format now' message again??????

Arghhh!!!!!

Help please.

Matt

Ignore the message it's a windows error I get this ocassionaly with my external hard drive just hit cancel and it will read the card/hard drive fine.

If the drive has been disconnected incorrectly and then attached again you will get this message. But as said ignore it.

Also note card should only be formatted in camera.

You may have to update your card reader drivers and check it is compatible with the SD card you have.

I would do but the stupid thing doesn't show on my pc unless I stick a card in it, and then it just displays the card?

Control panel > go to system then > device manager should tell you what it is.

Put card in PC access disk management and see what it says there, you can extend volume or delete partitions to reclaim the full size of the card, then format it.

You may have to update your card reader drivers and check it is compatible with the SD card you have.
More likely to need to update the card reader itself. It may well be too old to handle SDXC cards.
