Memory card error (For) Nikon

hi guys

It appears I have an issue with my memory card. My camera sometimes comes up with card error message or (For), whatever that means. Anyway, I can't take pics or view any pics. When I go to check my pics, it says card needs formatting. I don't want to do this as I will end up losing my pics. I need to get so,e pics off it which are important. Can anyone help with this? Many thanks.

'For' just means format.

Have you tried it in your PC?

I've not taken the memory card out and put it in the PC. Do it this way or connect the camera up to the PC via the cable? Thanks.

Try the cable first.

Just make sure you don't press 'format'!!!!!!

Right, nothing. Folder pops up when plugged in. Message - This folder is empty.

Looks like you'll have to put it in your PC and use some data recovery software.

Recuva rings a bell.

Hi guys

Right, I've installed Recuva. I've taken the memory card out of the camer and put it into my memory card USB stick and then plugged into PC. The memory card is under the 'G:\ drive on my PC. When I go to recuva and search G drive, it says "Failed tp scan the following drives: G:\ Unable to determine file system type."

I'm not sure what to do now...

What card is it? Maybe the manufacturers have a recovery software you could try ... however from the above it looks like the card is so corrupted that you may not be able to retrieve anything.
Apart from the manufacturer (try that 1st) you could try http://www.easeus.com/datarecoverywizard/free-data-recovery-software.htm

For the future... make sure you check for any firmware updates. I was having some issues with my D3200 and a firmware update later and it works perfectly again.
