Memory card choices

I am looking for opinions on what is the best sd for all round for performance

Looking at sandisk extreme pro also curious with other brands aswell

I do currently have a sandisk extreme CF card and it performs brilliantly.

Sandisk would be my choice, followed by Lexar.
 
I'm a sandisk user, have over a TB if their cards but I bought my first Lexar card last week because I needed UHS-II and the lexar is about half the price of the sandisk for the same size.
 
What camera are you using? What are your priorities (buffer, capacity etc)?

Whilst I agree that Sandisk Extreme Pro cards are very good (well mine are anyway) they may not, necessarily be the best choice in all circumstances. For example, I find Transcend cards to be very good and whilst I will sacrifice a little speed (reduced buffer) this does not matter for landscapes travel etc and I can get double the capacity for about the same price. On the other hand for wildlife/sports shooting the in camera speed of the card is the most important for me. This means Lexar 1000/1066x CF cards and Sandisk Extreme Pro 95 MBPS SD cards.

Another factor to consider is that not all cameras can fully utilise the potential of some cards - so why buy a faster (more expensive) card than your camera can fully use?

Just some food for thought.

P.S. You will not go wrong with Sandisk Cards, but there are other alternatives out there.

Ditto.

Why I use a older 64G card in my X-Pro 1, and a Lexie USH-II in the x-t1. Putting the Lexar in the x-pro 1 is pointless.
 
Check the Write speed - time taken to clear the buffer. That's the important one and can be very different to the headline Read speed (time taken to upload to computer). Write speeds can also vary between identical cards of different capacity.

But unless you shoot in continuous drive mode a lot, or HD video etc, you're unlikely to notice any difference between a moderately priced medium speed card and the much more expensive high speed versions.

The only realistic way to avoid fakes is to buy from a seller supplied by an official distributor.
 
I use a Canon 5d mark iii and my main use for the camera is aviation photography hence the need for a decent speed card

The cf card I know is faster through the camera but wanted something roughly comparable in the sd slot

Ideally I would a large enough capacity so that I don't have to change cards on a day

I may be wrong, but from what I have read, I believe the Canon 5D3 has a slow SD card slot - so what ever you put in it it is not going to be fast

It would appear that your best (but not cheapest) solution is to get a large capacity CF card of decent speed. Keep looking around the web as I may be wrong!
 
I know it is a bit slower than the cf slot for the really important shots I switch to the cf but for a most other things it's on the sd card where it is generally fast enough
 
I tend to use lexar on my 5d's as they beat the quoted speed when testing on the pc vs SanDisk which say 95MB/s but hit 73-75 and the lexar will be maybe 103-105 MB/s
 
I think the SD slot is 21 MBPS. When I owned mine it didn't seem to make any difference what speed SD card I used as long as it was faster than 20 MBPS. The CF slot does benefit from using a fast card in terms of the number of images that can be taken before the frame rate slows down.
