Memories of the 70s-80s-90s

Ahh, the Chopper. I used to modify my bikes when I was a kid so my Chopper (an old wreck from the Barras) ended up with a set of front forks from a 21" racer frame, a blue velour ( ) saddle and a respray in BL Old English White.

It was probably the most subtly modded bike I owned

Mid to late 70's flares and loons were replaced by baggy Waisters. The waisteband had to have a height of at least 3 buttons, but five was even more cool. :gag::cuckoo:

Thank goodnes Punk came along not long afterwards.;)

70s

76 snow in april - drought by June
icebreaker and goldmine chocolate bars
scaletrix
subuteo
hang glider toy

Early 80s

The A team
TJ Hooker
Dukes of Hazard
Battlestar Galatica reruns
Starwars

Later 80s

Puberty :sulk:
Climbing on to the school roof to look through the girls changing room skylight and getting caught
Building an illegal still (and intending to sell the produce as "party spirit" ) but getting caught
Building a potato cannon and firing potatoes at the headmasters greenhouse
Getting expelled (can't think why :whistling: )

90s

Buying my first car (ford zephyr owned jointly with my mate john - it started off pink then we painted it silver with hamerite)

Dreams of rockstardom with our band 'translucent aadvark'

Translucent aardvark split on grounds of artistic differences (the base player wanted ius to play some songs he'd written, I said no because they were crap)

University

Purple Nasties

Student Loans

It was a bike with real character
It does look good, but a shame lights were so ghastly back then. I pretended mine were some communication device from a yet unwritten Sci Fi classic :D

voyage to the bottom of the sea :D My fave prog along with captain scarlet.

Memories from the 70's

The music was what mattered not the image
Footballers used the same pubs and clubs as normal human beings
You could do street photography without being accused of being a Paedophile
People went into politics to be able to serve not for what they could screw the population for
You could trust the Banks

Now I'm off to slash my wrists

Fires!! Fires!! I've lost count of how many fires we used to start in the woods in the summer hols... collect dry twigs and dry brown grass then get the magnifying glass on it... within 5 minutes it was out of control and 20ft high up the side of a tree... we'd be wacking it with bushes to put it out.

Empty fairy liquid bottles (or even not quite empty were still game) for a good old water fight in the street

BTW ... if it's a Grifter.. it's got to be red or it doesn't count :D

Did anyone play kick the can or sly fox or british bulldog? 3 fantastic street games

You didn't happen to torture small animals and/or wet the bed too, did you? :suspect:

Memories of the 70s-80s-90s --- they were not as good as the 60s. :exit:

Bomber Jackets. :gag:

Bomber Jackets. :gag:

Now I had a few of those if you mean the chequed ones with the fluffy collar rather than the black punk ones.

Bombers (that was me) but there was also Parkas with the snorkel hood (how many kids got knocked down crossing roads in them) and the green fish-tail MOD coats with optional target on the back.

Yeah! Those fluffy chequered one replaced a faux leather purple and black one which Adam Faith wore in the late sixties IIRC.

My memory of parkas were normal winter school coat in blue or green (from C&A) until the very late 70's early 80's when ex-military style fish-tale parkas made a small come-back with a mod-revival.

The 80's...

Tight black trousers (stitched on my mum's sewing machine so you could barely get them on)...winkle-picker shoes from Rebina in Sheffield, long black coat, shirt (collarless, possibly, or with a very thin black tie). hair done up with so much hairspray which was set solid by continuous use of a hairdryer in the style of "Fock of Seaguls or David Sylvian from Japan.

And...

Finding a photo of my dad from the 60's and (apart from the hair - wouldn't have a hairdryer in them days!) he looked exactly the same as we did in the 80s!

magnifying glass on the ants nest was about as far as i took it.. and that trait still hasn't left me.

Last summer i followed a trail of ants near my front door to their nest and doused them in a crap bottle of brandy that i'd had in the cupboard for years.. then lit it with a match.. snap, crackle and pop

Not to be confused with shake'n'vac..

Or drink and shake..

Anyone remember that chewing gum called golden nuggets? In a little cloth bag looked like little nuggets of gold with a cowboy on the front?
