I was convinced i was getting a grifter for xmas in 1980 but i got a striker

grifters were cool, but had an evil streak....especialy when the gears decided to slip as you were stood up pedalling #ouchmynuts

The grifter was an awsome bike. Big thick sadle big thick handlebar pad. The slip gear was a problem though lol

My mate had a grifter, but I much preferred my BMX.

erm...yeah...They just kept on coming back...I guess I enjoyed the '80's the most. Maybe I spend to much time looking back rather than here and now:help::)

I loved my Grifter - you could tuck the bendy bit of the mud guard underneath so it rubbed the tyre and made a motorbike sound.

Slip Gear was a pain though not as bad as the Chopper's ball splitting gear knob.

The Striker was great for skids with the pedal back brake.

A couple brothers that lived a few doors down from me had Mustangs...looked a bit like the Chopper. Does anyone remember the Bomber bike?

Oooh - I so wanted a Bomber.

I remember a Tomahawk too. Like a tiny Chopper so to speak.

I had the Formula 3

Yay!
I could never find a decent piccie of it :)
It was tiny compared to a chopper. Actually, i think it might have been the wheels that made it different to a Tomahawk

My mate up until recently used to by and do up Choppers. You wouldn't believe how much he could sell them for, one made just under £800.I didn't realise there were so many different types. Mk1, Mk2, 5 gear ones, American ones etc

All this talk of Choppers and accidents has reminded me of a lad I used to hang out with that following an accident involving the handlebars of his racer got the nickname of Uno by the other kids in his class...aren't kids lovely?:) Didn't put him off cycling though

We used to pole vault with bamboo canes from carpet shops or allotments,it was great fun even 6ft fences topped with barbed wire were easy meat

lol same here, although our mate got nicknamed "Orinoco" after the Womble (think about it)...

I remember the strike at GMTV (I think) meaning Batman all morning. We used to get dressed for school in front of the fire and watch it. I think their ratings went up!

Creamola foam .....I miss it so much lol

Memories of the 70s-80s-90s --- they were not as good as the 60s. :exit:

Many more but they sum most of it up for me. Plus school and girls of course

I used to do that with a squashed Kwenchy Kup jammed between the fork and brake cailiper on my BMX

Does anyone remember the heatwave we had in the 70s about 76 i think. It lasted weeks and weeks it was like living in greece it was so hot.

Ah the best days of my life. That was when summer came in june not august. Riding around on my chopper wearing an actionman t shirt and patch pockets drinking a jubilee frozen drink.

Then playing with your T.C.R race tracks and your evel knievel stunt bike scuffing your knuckles on the pavement as you turned the handle as fast as you could:lol:

Scott that was the year of my last school summer holidays, there wasn't a green blade of grass anywhere to be seen. :)

Anyone remember Space Dust?

Platform shoes and flares that were so big you took three steps before they started to move

Hair! - no not the musical, I just remember having some back then!

 Hair yes i had some of that too. Now space dust was fabo it used to pop in your mouth hehe loved it.

Platform shoes haha walking around pretending to be starsky and hutch:D
Do you remember the shoes with the little peice of gold plastic that was on the tip of the toe? :gag: Was made to wear them for school hehe.

luckily missed all that 70s stuff (platforms, bay city rollers, donny osmond)

Lots of Madness/Bad Manners, Harrington jackets, Parkers and mod stuff around at school. I was too geeky and uncool to get into any of that (phew!)

Another thing for me, now I am trawling the memory banks was Coe, Ovett, Steve Cramm and Daley Thompson. Kevin Keegan. Brian jacks

I remember seeing this in the 70s and even then i asked why are three men hanging around on a beach in vest and pants

Warm school milk in those small bottles with the thin straws..

Spectrum 48K with Hungry Horace, Daley Thompson's Decathlon..

Formula 1 with Alain Prost, Kiki Rosberg, Niki Lauda, Nigel Mansell running out of fuel and pushing his Williams across the finish line, Ayrton Senna totalling his car on the last lap of qualifying because crossing the line sideways was the quickest lap, two engine choices for teams (normally apirated vs variable boost turbo)..

I do! And even owned one until I sold it about five years ago. For the likes of me, I cannot remember why on Earth I have ever done that and still am regretting it to this day.

I took this photo for advertising purposes - the bike was gone the next day. :(

Bomber.jpg

It was a bike with real character but at least my current one isn't that far off the Bomber in looks and feel as it's one of those chunky American style things (big cow-horn handlebars, fat wheels and . . . most importantly, a seat that resembles my living room sofa - I just don't know how ANYONE can sit on those razor-blade sharp things that has the effect of slicing into your buttocks).
