I left a sandisk extreme memory card in my shirt pocket and it went in the washing maching.. my wife caled me in and we could see it... so it got a good old soapy wash ....

I put it in the card reader... all the default canon folders are there.. i tried copying a file over and back again... all works perfect.. I didnt expect that :)

My wife washed my 1gb usb memory stick and that came out fully working.

I have washed lot's of strange objects in my time sometimes you get away with it, I know memory sticks and USB pendrives have survived my eco friendly 30 degree wash before now. One thing that didn't survive was a paper driving licence, not sure why it was in a shirt pocket but it needed a new one as it fell to bits.

My headphones get washed every now and then, they hide in my Jeans! They always work fine afterwards! And paper money seems to survive well too.

I washed my 8gb SD the other day as well was panicing as I was going to the BTCC and only had a couple of 2gb cards so really needed it, filled the 2gb cards first then stuck the 8gb in and it worked perfectly :)

Hard little buggers aint they.

yep been there i was worried but works fine, i was shocked but it works so all is good

I did it all the time when I was in Iraq - spare cards went in my trouser side pockets and then straight into the 'choggi' laundry where everything got boil-washed.

I think my old Extreme-III cards went through about four times each.

No probs at all...

Looks like Tony started this thread just so he could brag about owning a washing machine :shake:

I think the reason they don't die is that it's not powered on at the time of being washed :D

Judging by the noises mine was making last night, I won't have one much longer.

I've left my wallet in my jeans' pocket before and the whole lot survived after drying out for a day, including my paper driving licence, but it was in its vinyl sleeve. Thankfully, no washed memory cards as yet.

My previoUs mobile phone survived a hot wash in jeans pocket

unlucky mate... its rented :)

seriously!.. when you go through life with 7 kids even though not all lived here at same time (age span and other stuff).. its still a busy house... even now I still have two teenage sons and an adult daughter here... so over the last decade or three the washing maching has been on day/night almost 24/7..

It seemed more prudent to rent one that has someone who will come and fix it next day... and believe me with our usage it wears down..also update it every yr or so..

saved in the long run :)

So.... nagh nagh! :)

 ...or rather Post Processing a new meaning! Change your EXIF Program Name to Fairy or other choice of washing up powder. I'm not even going to mention White Balance!

Yep, been there and done that too!

Actually, in January I parked a bit near the Thames in Richmond and my car got flooded - came back to the car with full on deep puddles in every footwell and as luck would have it, my Tom Tom was under the driver seat :gag:

Opened the TomTom case and water poured out...thought it was dead but left it for a week, switched on again and never looked back. Not only was the unit fine but the SD card with the maps on too

I've got a few unscathed pendrives that have had trips in the washer, although my passort didn't fair too well in the dryer. Luckily there was only a few months left on it so no big loss there.

you'll need Daz or Vanish for whiter whites :D

seem to remember reading in a mag recently they subjected a CF card to all sorts of abuse, washing machine, dropping it and even ran over it with the car  looked a bit worse for wear, but still worked

I would buy a new one, when you least expect it, the card will let you down, you will always remember the washing machine incident

That happened to me before - the card worked, for a while.

I'd not rely on it, for the sake of the price of a new one...
