Mel Smith Passed Away.

That's a shame.

I remember being shocked at his appearance on Celebrity Mastermind a few years ago.

R.I.P.

Great comedian. RIP.

A funny man and a loss to the comedy world. R.I.P

Never liked him as a comedian but 60 is no age to die. Having had 2 heart attacks myself, makes me appreciate how lucky I have been (so far). RIP

RIP and thanks for the enlightenment.

Loved the clip where he and Jones played high ranking British army officers set at the end of WWII with a German officer who signed the surrender, not happy to apologise.

A man who apparently had serious issues....as with many comedians. RIP.

RIP

The one sketch with Griff in Alas Smith and Jones that always sticks in my mind is possibly not their best but it struck a chord, was the Gas Board stakeout, anyone remember that?

Loved the head to heads with Gryff in the same series too

By far the best Not The Nine O' Clock News sketch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HoPXQ9fotZM

Mel Smith was a good serious actor too. This is common with a lot of comedians and is helped by their good sense of timing. Something which doesn't work so well when serious actors try to be comedians.

Steve.

I loved not the nine-o-clock news too. Still waiting for the bbc to release the series properly.

Havent viewed the links above yet but some of the best sketches were the hi-fi shop, gerald the gorilla and the politician argument one. Also the news items and the one legged peoples raid on a shoe shop. Oh, and the laxative race.

RIP.

RIP Mel Smith. Not only a great comedian but also a great comedy writer and producer. Will be sadly missed.
