It’s good to see so much interest in the ‘meets’ that are arranged by members of the forum. For some time now I’ve been thinking of doing something like this, and offering my professional help and guidance. So what would you say to a photography outing with a pro?

Suppose I picked a date and location and invited people to meet up with me. Would members be interested?

I’ve no idea of details as yet - open to ideas and suggestions. I live a long way from the nearest city, so I would have to charge something to cover my expenses. I’m not looking at this as a commercial venture. At this stage I’m just trying to gauge interest.

After being lucky enough to win a day's training at an Annabel Williams course I would certainly be interested in this but only if the numbers were kept down, there was about 14 in total in our group and it was just too many.

Indcidentally Philip I really enjoyed your recent serialised course in AP. We've family friend Dumfireshire and after reading your pieces I had been wondering about sloping off to do a course with you while my wife catches up with her old friend so I'd certainly be up for this.

Glad you enoyed the AP series, and you will be welcome. I'm wary about posting what might be seen as advertising, but if you contact me privately, there's a weekend in March that might interest you.
Not sure about numbers at all. I enjoy taking groups. Much depends on the level of interest.

Depending on dates and locations, me too !
I am normally in Spain, so I would need to consider location, timing and theme, but the idea is a great one!
Good luck and thanks for the offer !

I would be interested, if I knew topic/subject. I'm new back to photgraphy so too advanced would be tuff, but good

Lucky old you.
Spain! I could add that to the list of possibilities.
Seriously, it is not out of the question. We spend time there. Where abouts are you?
Let's see how much interest there is in UK first, though.

Hi Phil

I think if you read through the list of attendees at/from these meetings you'd find there is often one or more Pro's in them who offer advice freely

Are you offering a specific Tuition meet then? And if so, would you want paying?

Like I say, I'm not looking at this commercially.
My outline idea is to do a tutorial offering help and advice as we move from subject to subject. I suspect there will be a whole range of levels, but this has never been a great problem.
This is an entirely new idea for me, so I have nothing yet firm in my mind - that's why I'm open to ideas.

Sounds like an idea Philip. As you will have seen, the TP member meets are generally quite informal gatherings, everyone covers their own expences, hence they are generally limited to those within easy travelling distance of the particular location, and are a mix of almost complete beginners through to the very experienced, the whole point being that a-ideas are exchanged through discussion and watching each other, b-advice is swapped from one user of a particular camera to another user of the same, and most importantly, c-we have fun and usually come home with some good pictures.

So I suppose the thing to consider as a professional already offering formalised courses, is whether you would consider this an extension of that for TP-er's, and therefore 'official' and paid, or something more informal, such as we already do, with you willingly offering advice, but also there for the main purpose of having some laughs [probably mainly at our expense  ] if you see what I mean?

Oh, what you didnt mention that might be important when guaging interest and numbers, is what area you are in [North, south, east, west, just a rough idea] as we also have to consider travelling and stuff, so that might help :D

Intestesting thread - count me subscribed in :D

Put me on the list Phil as a possible. Landscapes are my thing, but learning something new isnt wasted.

Still can't figure out whether you're advertising your services free or for a fee?

:shrug::shrug::shrug:

SW Scotland may be do-able for me

In the original post I said - "I live a long way from the nearest city, so I would have to charge something to cover my expenses."
So, no, that's not entirely free.
I don't know, perhaps a tenner each.
Does that sound fair? Depends how many people are interested - that's why I'm asking people what they think, and that's why I appreciate your suggestions and points of view.
Thanks,
Philip

Oh heck I live in Carshalton, Surrey so SW Scotland is a bit far for me!

Philip, I'm tempted. The cost must be kept as low as possible though.

Put me down as a possible.

I'd be interested, especially if in southern Scotland.

Hey Northsteet there is lots to take pics of in Carshalton /Croydon

Yeah, lots of urban stuff like cars, buses and shopping trollies in the ponds ;)

Depending on dates i would be up for this one.
Count me in.

:canon:

I'd definitely be interested depending on location and money! :)

And very kind of u to offer your services so to speak! :D

Philip - sounds very interesting. Let us know how the North Engand, South Scotland affair goes and we may have to twist your arm for London street photography.

be warned though, we've never felt it necessary to wait for the mid-day sun before finding a pub ;)
