Hi,

Quick question for you good peeps. If I get a NAS that lists media server and itunes server in it's capabilities, does this mean that I can then access my itunes library through the PS3, Xbox or iPad to play music and films?

I am looking at the Zyxel NSA310 which has some decent reviews and putting a 2tb disk in it to act as part of my backup but to also allow iTunes/media stuff to be available on other machines.

Thanks in advance

Nope

itunes server means it shares it for other iTunes, but you need iTunes on a PC/Mac to serve it up. (I was hopeful like you were)

However, the PS3 and Xbox don't support iTunes as a server, but you can use DLNA which a lot of NAS do.

You could get a Micro server (look for the HP Micro server threads on here) that would do everything you want.

I have a Dell server at home, I use iTunes on it for my airport expresss, apple TV and iOS devices. I also use Twonky Server (DLNA) which monitors my iTunes and serves all the content up via DLNA for my PS3 and Blu-ray player.

Thanks for that - I had a feeling that with Apple that would be the case!! From what you have said though can you install the twonky server software on the NAS and then stream the itunes stuff through that to the PS3?
