Hey guys, I'm currently doing media studies at A'level and was wondering if anyone knows of a place or person that are willing to hire out cameras? Specifically a 500D don't want to spend too much but want something that'll give me more control than a cheap handhled camcorder. :)

Much appriciated.

I don't think you'll find one. Most hire places concentrate on professional equipment. You'd be able to get a 7D or a 5D Mk II quite readily.

It might be worth talking to the people at Hire A Camera though. They stock the 350D / 400D 450D, so they might be planning to get the 500D as well.

Yeah tis true, have lokoed at a 5D for a weekend period for £120 but its too expensive for what I need it for. Might have to find someone I know that has one and see if I can borrow it. :)

Thanks for the info.

Im surprised, most colleges hire out equipment themselves to students due to the costs involved and students being renown for having to rub pennies together.

500D wont give you any control apart from depth of field and that will depend on the lenses you are using. Ideally you'll need a 5DII or a 7D.

Please explain

I'm very confused by that statement! How do the newer bodies offer more control?

Sorry, but why??? A 5DII or 7D will give you more image quality and build quality but basically the same control.

Yeah tbh thats all I really want is focus and DoF control, that control will make the camorders version of the same scene so much better.

Because only the 5DII or 7D offer full manual control of Aperture and SS. Also IIRC the 500D is only 20 FPS... not 24 or 30.

Exactly!

7D and 5DII allow manual setting of ISO, shutter speed and aperture in video mode whereas the 500D will not allow you to set these manually. You will have to use whatever settings the camera chooses.

Ahhhhh, didn't realise we were talking about video, I was thinking stills! Count my advice out then, I'm not a video person!
