Hey guys

Im sure someone on here must be able to help me with this.

Reading the instruction on the Meca, it seems to imply that the Meca can be controlled off camera acting as a slave and triggered by the 400d.. Have I understood this correctly, or is another Meca required to act as a master.

Second question is, how in hell do I do it?

Info from here:
http://www.metzflash.co.uk/pages/metz27.htm

states that

The integrated slave trigger unit allows the 58 AF-1 to be implemented separately.
An additional plus for all those who want to use the 58 AF-1 digital apart from the camera: the new flash can be used wirelessly with the Canon E-TTL remote system and the Nikon i-TTL remote system, thanks to the integrated slave trigger unit.

I'm afraid I can't answer directly as I have neither a Canon nor a Metz... however a mate of mine has a 58 AF and a 48 AF that he uses with a Nikon D60. Unfortunately, the D60, unlike the Nikon D80 (which I have), does NOT have commander mode and cannot use the inbuit pop up flash as the master so he hasn't tried it. He HAS successfully used the 58AF as the master on the hot shoe to wirelessly trigger the 48AF as slave so I don't see why the 58AF can't also be a slave, assuming that the pop up flash on the Canon can be made the master (like on a D80).

I'm sure someone with a Canon will be along to confirm if this is possible.

i thinkit means as an optical slave, so when the built in flash fires, it triggers the metz also

Yes indeed, by "wireless" in this context they do mean optically rather than by radio.

Im sure you guys are right with this, it doesnt appear, to my untrained eye that the EOS400 will work as the commander. That is unless I have missed something obvious.
