So I sent a polite email a while back to our council asking for a replacement Blue bag for recycling the cardboard. A very swift reply back saying that it will be arranged but may take up to 2 weeks, in the meantime put all cardboard in empty carrier bags untied and it will be collected. We do not use many carrier bags as we have five or six of the heavy duty Tesco Asda bags, so I put all the cardboard in a black bin bag and left it untied with the top of the bag tucked under the lid of the bottle box,you could not fail to see it. Two collections later and it is still here. Another polite email explaining the situation, another quick reply. We are sorry to here your cardboard has not been collected but your bag will be with you shortly, in the meantime I advise you do not use a black bag for disposing of the cardboard. Call me me bloody argumentative if you wish :D But I could not help but replying again explaining that their refuse team come to my house to collect the cardboard. They usually empty the cardboard from a blue bag and leave me the blue bag for the next collection. All I am asking is that they do the same but with the black bag. Not too difficult is it? Or is it? :lol::lol: I am thinking there might be some health and safety issue here like one of their workers could accidently suffocate if the wind blows the black sack over His/Her head. The days of using a bit of savvy seems to be slowly diminishing imo.

I think the most diplomatic way to solve this is to send an email explaining that you pay their wages and order them to do it... :-)
 
Well there is that to it Colin, it will get sorted this week no doubt, I just find all this attitude and way of thinking nowadays as laughable :D
 
theres probably a rule for the collection men saying do not collect anything in the wrong bags so that everything gets sorted correctly.

its going to be very hard to get a different message to the collection guys to give 1 address an exception.

do you neighbours not have any carriers you can have? we have absolutely tonnes of the buggers. maybe i should put them in the classifieds :lol:
 
In a similar situation to you our council gives out clear bags for plastic.
Ours went awol one day and the council never do do send out a requested replacement.

I stick all our plastic into a black refuse sack but leave the top open so they see it is plastic. Thankfully they empty it every 2nd week as planned.

Whilst a black bag might not be the same as an allocated clear or blue bag, is it that hard for a bin man to have a quick look and apply some common sense!!!
 
Councils are run by people who live in their own little world. They are so scare to put their head over the parapet in case it makes them look as if they are actually doing something.

Our own council should carry out an inspection every year for our animal boarding licence. the last time we had a visit was 3 years ago.
 
A friend of mine ran out of domestic recycling sacks (our council issue pink bags). She went to the office to ask for more but knows they only issue one roll at a time.

Friend: "Can I have another roll of recycling bags please"
Council: "You only want one roll?"
Friend: "OK, I'll have two rolls please"
Council: "Sorry, we can only let you have one roll at a time"

just do what i did i threated to take it down to the local city hall and dump the bin every week untill it was sorted

we had our collections changed to fortnightlty our bin lid was 1 cm up worst case and weighed nothing

the bin man caught by my next door neighbour looked in the bin then grabbed the bin with one hand and tried to move it and apparently hurt his wrist now this guy was a big lad so this should not of done anything my neighbour a little lady of 80 asked what his problem was and he said he was going to sue me for been to heavy weight on the bin

the best thing about this the little old lady next door moved my bin back on her own and called me she said she cant understand why as it had no weight in

the councill are getting so stupid about this now they cut the services but yet make us do all the jobs we paid them to do

i spoke to a local counciller in the end and threatend the same thing if it was not emptied and i would be going to the local press next day it was collected by the same guy from the same crew
 
In Edinburgh, if your bin lid doesn't close you get a nice letter from the council trying to educate you about waste management.

We had it earlier in the year after gutting out a cupboard in the house. Bin lid was raised no more than an inch. A week after collection we got a letter saying we had over filled our bin and that we should learn to recycle. They then quoted that as this was our first occasion it was just a warning, if it happens again there will be a charge.

Every day we recycle cardboard, plastic, glass and metal into the appropriate containers they gives us but because our lid was open a fraction they take the royal hump, honestly!
 
Tie the bag up and stick it out with the waste trash. Balls to em, its not like you haven't tried !
 
We now have five bins! 3 big wheelie bins, Green for normal waste, brown for garden waste, blue for recyclables, 2 'sealable' bins, large grey and small grey for food waste, all picked up on different days/weeks and woe betide you if you have a lid slightly open on any of them or put the wrong kind of waste in the wrong bin.

We have SIX!!!! :eek: Three wheelie bins: one each for general waste, plastics and garden waste, one lidded bin for food waste, one open box for metal and glass and another open box for paper.
 
be grateful you have wheelie bins. NFDC dont do them on the grounds they dont look nice.

which normally leads to the bags being ripped open by cats/foxes the night before collection.
 
I have a running issue with our bins. Basically put the bins out, still in my land boundary though, at 7am get home from work 7.30ish. I usually have a note through the door, from some jobsworth, saying my bin is blocking the footpath.

Firstly, its been out 12hrs-ish and I unfortunately have to work.
Secondly, the damn bin man leaves it there not me.

Some busybody must be complaining as I can't imagine council workers are that stupid.
 
we dont have bins either, black bags for general waste blue bags for paper/plastic/cardboard/tins and a food waste bin. they dont collect glass because of "health and safety" they might cut themselve through the thick suede gloves they wear...

as for putting it in carriers, i'd tell them to b****r off we have to pay 5p each for them here! lol
 
On the other hand...

Our collectors are great. All the recyclables go randomly into one or two boxes and they sort it into different compartments on their lorry as they collect. No fuss, no mess, always ready with a smile. Food waste goes onto my compost heap and gets turned into potatoes.
 
Simples,,, people lacking everyday basic skills. (PLEBS) :lol:

LOL epic attempt but no. well i do like dogs and i do hope to have one/two one day. i do have two cats though.

when was the last time you saw a dog roaming around on its own and opening people bin bags anyway? a lot of the time its cats or foxes, or i guess rodents and other wildlife.
 
I have no problems with my refuse collection.

On the other had I receive atrocious customer service from our local Tescos recently.

Tescos, eh, they are all blooming useless.

All refuse in the same bin. No legal requirement to recycle here :D
 
Weekly refuse collection, any bags you like or any bin if you prefer.(Obviously not the same as the council ones though!)

Alternate weeks recycling (all in the same bin) and garden waste if you pay for it.

No messing about changing days if it is a bank holiday, they even collected on Boxing Day a few years back!

Cheerful helpful binmen too as an added bonus!

Same here. You can take stuff to the local recycling centre yourself, if you want to. The council will collect any large items for disposal - kitchen appliances, furniture etc - for a nominal fee.
 
Be grateful you don't have to deal with Stoke Council. I can't believe the hassle I'm having with them. They can't do even the most basic things right.. They've also managed to take me to court for non payment of council tax even though I have it in writing from them there is nothing to pay until I tell them when a new tenant is moving in. New tenant is due to move in tomorrow but they've already been sending demands to a house I don't live in. I've told them I don't live in it but they persist with this stupidity. I went over there today to do last minute checks and find the court date was last week! I was going to email them today to give them the news... instead they got an irate email with a lot of capitals.
 
Seems the rules have changed regarding council tax & empty properties. Not sure if Stoke is one of the LA's ending discounts.

It's the single occupancy discount that is unclear. They've applied the new rules which only allows one month empty before council tax is applied. I'm only 1 person so shouldn't it be the reduction for that? Otherwise it's costing me more for a 2 bed craphole than it does for a large detached!
