HI ALL

I THINK IM HAVING ONE OF THOSE MOMENTS OR JUST BEING THICK :bang:

I HAVE A IMAGE, SIZE 4288 X 2848 AT 12.8MB AND I WANT TO RESIZE IT TO 6MB AT HIGH RES TO KEEP ITS BEST QUALITY. DO I JUST HALF THE SIZE OF IT TO GET THIS RESULT? I JUST CANT WORK IT OUT . I SHOULD KNOW THIS :bonk::bonk:.

THANKS YOU GUYS FOR HELPING A DUMB ASS OUT! :D:D

The question is a little confusing.
Do you want to retain the physical dimensions or not?

Anyway, saving with photoshop and keeping the preview box ticked will show you what the file looks like at the given filesize, it will probably look fine at 6MB.

Do they give a specification for submissions?
Have you tried my suggestion?

Yes a hi-res JPEG (maximum file size 6MB) my image is 12.8MB I just want to get it down to 6MB

I usually just go to (image size) in CS4 and half the dimensions which is 4288 X 2848 but not sure if this is the right way, to get the size im after.

What resolution is it? Lowering that will reduce file size quite a bit.

300 dpi, its got to be, or it wouldn't be at its highest quality.I dont really want to do that really as it getting published.

You can either change the quality, (lower quality = smaller file size) or the resolution (less pixels = lower file size).

You need over 14" (4288pix @ 300dpi) picture dimensions for a mag?

I think you need to find what size the image will be printed at (in inches, or mm / 25.4) then multiply it by 300. Resize your image for that res, then tweak the quality so it creeps under 6mb file size.

any help?

If you halve the original pixel width and height ie make it 2144 x 1424 you will have 1/4 of the pixels - about 3MB.
So you need something like 3000 x 2000 which will give you about half the original pixels and therefore about half the original MB, the best way is just to resize the width, let the height adjust accordingly, and see what MB you get.
