My Mac freezes up every now & again to the extent that all I can do is press & hold the power button to switch it of and then reboot. It seems to be rather random in that there doesn't appear to be a specific trigger as such. It's happened 4 times over the last week or so. Getting a bit concerned as it's 6 years old and I'm hoping the hard drive isn't about to :hungover:

My old one was doing the same at about 5 years old, checked the fans weren't clogged [glass of screen out] but all clear. Took it into the apple store and they ran umpteen tests and finally decided the main board was faulty. We stall have that machine, Beth still uses it occassionally, it still freezes occasionally, but until it dies it lives! ;)

Have you checked the HD via disk utility, see if the SMART is picking up a failing drive?

Drive was dying from the sound of things. Do you have a time machine backup that's recent? If so, replace the drive and reinstall/recover and all will be like it was at the time of last backup.

iMac? There will be a teardown video that will help.

Since Yv broke it by proxy (and will hopefully have some time on her hands soon...) and knows her way around hardware (fnar, fnar!), she might be able to help you, Marc.

Does that mean I might have to be nice to @Yv ? Oh if I must. :D

I got black screen of death this morning. It rebooted very quickly but something in the back of my head is telling me this is not necessarily a good thing!

It's not that hard to do for a limited period!!!

Hope you get it sorted, Marc.
