As professionals, you probably are already aware of this, but I found a great piece of freeware many years ago which I was so happy with I emailed the developer and got a personal reply. :rules:


The software is 'Irfanview' its a freeware image viewer application. GREAT for quick (full screen if required) previews of many image formats!! Double click a jpg and it loads in well under 1 second.

As a Software Engineering student, I spend a lot of time reviewing small pieces of software, applets and applications. It is common knowledge that the efficiency and relieability of "Windows Photo Gallery" (bundled with Vista) is in considerably less than Windows XP or even Win2K!

If you're on Vista, or any Windows OS I can't recommend Irfanview strongly enough!

It's a well known and widely used solution to the problem of the built-in image viewing software in Windows not being able to open all types of image files, and saves you having to resort to fancy applications like Photoshop, Illustrator or Fireworks.

Very useful.

I have used Irfanview for years and it is a very useful bit of software. However, when you want to preview large numbers of images it can slow down significantly.

Last year I switched to Faststone http://www.faststone.org/FSViewerDetail.htm which is significantly faster and also supports most major raw formats as well as jpeg etc.

If you are looking for a good image viewer either of these will do the job far better than the default viewer built into windows.

I'm confused, why would you need another image viewer. Why not use the one that came with your camera, what benefit are these over Canon Zoombrowser EX

Because these viewers load slowly, If you want to just check the details of an image briefly, then Irfanview is really good. As an Computing Student I'm aware of the strain some image viewers put on a system. In the likes of Irfanview the beauty is its simplicity. With a double click of the jpg and a tap of the return key, you can view a fullscreen of your image in under 2 seconds.

In the realm of software, the smaller and simpler the better, ok you CAN edit in other apps, but sometimes you just want a quick glance.

Plus there are certain other benefits gained from using this type of Image Viewer!
