Its an awesome mountain and towers over Zermatt! Even without the torches its one of the iconic peaks.

I was so disappointed when I holidayed there once only to discover that you can't really see it from the town.

You can walk from Zermatt to place where you can get good views or take a cable car.

Which I did. But I went with the common idea that the mountain can be seen from the town.

Well where we staying you only had to walk to one of the bridges over the river and look upstream - not really missable
